AT Fit Transmission lunges into 1st Gear when slowing

I've had my Silver 2009 Fit LX (Canada) Automatic Transmission for 3 months now.

I've found that as I'm braking to slow down for a stoplight - as the car slows to say, below 5km/hr the AT gears down to 1st gear which actually causes the car to lunge forward just slightly before I'm almost at a complete stop.
It's not that it feels unsafe per say, it just doesn't feel like a nice smooth stop as I'm used to with other cars I've owned.
It does this when the car is fully warmed up as well.

Anyone else experience this with their Fit??

I experience the opposite, car downshifts into first early and and am suddenly blessed with engine breaking.

Same here...haven't figured out how to work around it. I also find the lack of engine breaking something to get used to. I come up to stop signs rather quickly even when I've let off the gas some time ago. (I had a Camaro Z28 prior to this car.)

If you have paddle shifters then you can manually up/down shift. I paddle shift all the time and it helps me slow me down to a smooth stop w/ engine breaking + gentle braking. The lack of rear breaks sucks, but I hope to install one in the near future.

sometimes, my mom's acura TL does that exact same thing, and so did our 88 accord. is this common in all honda transmission? Honda transmission to be seems a bit more choppy than our toyotas.

So I was gona post a thread on this annoying blurp, and I found this thread first.

Did you original posters notice any difference after the break in process..? Did it work it self out..?

I'd like to figure out if there is a series of AT fits that have this problem. Or if it's just something in a majority of fits that I am gona have to deal with.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but im curious of an update.

This is common among all hondas I've driven but since I'm in first with the paddles before I come to a stop I avoid the lurch altogether.

Ran my GE in S mode today, the lurch before stop in D was gone. The shift indicator showed 5m,4m,3m,1m, with 1m coming just as the car came to a complete stop. Switched back to D, the lurch came back right away.

I have a Canadian base model AT with A/C and after a bit over 1600km, I still encounter that lurching when braking but have learned to cope with it... most of the time...

Note he is going to install ONE. Hmmm I wonder on which wheel?

I must pay attention to mine. I haven't really noticed this lurch.

I do find the lurch when starting out with cold engine annoying til choke is off.

While I notice a slight "nudge" when it shifts to first gear while rolling to a stop at about 3/4mph, it's not pronounced enough to be annoying.

I think if it were annoying, I'd be taking it in for warranty service and asking the service rep to contact whoever Honda's tech advisers are if he didn't have a solution. It might be a mechanical adjustment, or might justify an update to the PCM logic. Either way, living with it won't get it solved. I don't think it's doing this "by design."

I tend to think it's "by design" since all that's happening is the car downshifting. If you switch to synthetic oil it becomes a little less pronounced. It only really bothered me for the first 15k miles, I never notice anymore.

Maybe it's a learned response to driving habits? Does anyone know if Fits do this?

No lunge in "S"?

Can anyone else please check for the "lunge" when coming to a stop in "S" mode? Mine does not but does in "D". If other have the same behavior then the issue is software, hence, hopefully correctable with a flash.
