switchblade remote mod

There was an OP modding your remote housing to the switchblade type housing but I can't find the picture for it so I took some with my camera phone. (sorry for the crappy pictures)

I purchase the switchblade housing from Ebay.
eBay Motors: FLIP KEY SHELL for HONDA ODYSSEY LX PILOT RIDGELINE (item 270358820321 end time Mar-25-09 07:48:33 PDT)
1.I started by holding the front and back of the housing with a little bit of pressure while I remove the 3 screws on the back side, be careful not to strip the screws.

2.Continue to keep pressure on the front and back side of the housing even after the 3 screws are out because there is a spring inside (the one that flips out the key) that is under load. If you just pop it open, the spring might pop out and you take a chance of losing the tiny spring.

3.Carefully open the housing a little bit and you will notice the back side of the housing flips around counter clockwise by itself.

4.Now you take your original key and unscrew the one screw and pry open the housing and remove the remote part and put it into your new housing.

5. Now what you have to do is line up the notch on the spring with the notch on the back side of the housing, once it is lined up you load up the spring by turning it counter clockwise a few times (I turned mine 3 times) and close the front and back side of the housing together. Just to make sure the key springs open by itself. I kept pressure of both front and back side of the housing and press the button to see if the key would spring open fast enough, if it is slow to open, you might need to load up the spring with another turn. Once that is done put the 3 screws back and you are almost done.

6.Now you take it to your car and check see if it still lock and unlock your car and take it to your local Honda parts dept. or local locksmith and have your keys cut and you are set.

So its that easy huh? Im gonna have to do this on mine, nice DIY.

Im thinking it would be cheaper to have home depot or something cut it rather than Honda. Does home depot do car keys?

Hows the shipping on that place? Just saw that theyre in china and standard shipping is 7-28 days...

+rep!!! wut about an acura 1? :p

M4psycho 03-16-2009 07:54 PM

Dang, that means you still have to get your key cut....but if it's just the key they need and not the immobilizer, i wonder how much Honda Canada charges...

Choro-Q_Fit 03-16-2009 08:10 PM

My local Honda stealer charged me $27.42 to cut the key.

I bought two of these from the same guy on eBay, only had one cut. Looking to sell the unused blank/housing. PM me if you're interested.

i got mine from the same person.
now i'm just waiting for it to come in.:hyper::hyper:can't wait any more.:hyper::hyper:

anyway +rep nice to see some pics.
this is by far very easy to do. looks way
simpler than the acurs key.

qbmurderer13 03-21-2009 08:07 PM

Just got mine cut today, works awesome. Starts no problem as long as you have the buttons facing up. If the key is the other way around it wont start. Honda only charged me 20 bucks to cut. Awesome mod. Thanks to choro for the DIY!

Did they cut it any different? My (regular) key starts in either up or down button position.

It has to do with the immobilizer chip being farther away from the ignition. The key housing is a bit bigger and the chip sits farther back.

niko3257 03-21-2009 09:17 PM

i can't wait. should be picking mine up on monday.:hyper::hyper:

EUROz*JDMz 03-22-2009 04:35 PM

hmm... cool mod, but my VW already already came with this mod. lol.:D

On a side note, the case looks kinda cheapy, is there an advantage to doing this as opposed to the Acura one? Has anyone gotten an Acura one to work?

lilaznphatboy 03-22-2009 04:37 PM

man this is like the 3rd diy ive seen for the same mod

qbmurderer13 03-22-2009 06:11 PM

But they all use different fob's. This is the easiest one I've seen.

713_fit 03-22-2009 06:14 PM

nm i read more of the thread and people answered already

if you live in houston, i can cut the key for you for 10 bucks =)

i want to real deal though, anyone know which acura key i have to get it to work?

qbmurderer13 03-22-2009 06:17 PM

No. All you do is open up your existing key/remote via the 2 screws in the back. Take out the button which are all together in one piece and contain the immobilizer chip inside the buttons. Get it cut and your done. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes plus the drive to the locksmith/honda.

the only diff is price.
if you got hook ups then get acura. if not i heard of people
paying over $100 for acura.
the other style will cost me half the amount.

also the pics don't do it justice.
doesn't look that cheap. actually looks really good.
at least mine does:D

Guess the immobilizers aren't built equally. My EBAY fob works either way. I wonder if you could do something to shorten the distance.

umop-apisdn 03-23-2009 11:01 AM

Want an OEM solution for the GEs (09+)?

35113-TL0-A10 - KEY, IMMOBILIZER & TRANSMITTER(BLANK) $27.42
35118-STK-A01 - COVER, MODULE $8.15

The key blank is from the 09 TSX. The cover is from the RDX, it allows you to delete the trunk button from the TSX key as our hatches unlock when you unlock the doors.

I have one of these setups, keyless, immobilizer, everything works like it was factory. The only downer is that the immobilizer has to be programmed at the dealer. I just hate letting those guys put their paws on my car.
