HIDs installed using oem Lexus Denso Ballasts.

1st off, for all of you saying retrofit is the only way to go, it's certainly the best way, and most expensive.

I decided to go a different route, and instead of an aftermarket kit, I pieced together my own using oem parts and the Casper H4 to D2S/D2R shields.

Glare was reduced from the shields and I haven't been highbeamed so I think it's fine.

Note, this method, you lose the high beams as it's not a bixenon kit, which was ok with me as I never use them.

I originally bought 6000K Garax D2C bulbs, but they didn't fit in the base of the Casper shields and I ended up using my stock 4300k OSRAM bulbs off my R32 when I upgraded to Philips Ultinons.

Ballasts are Genuine Lexus ones off a 2008 RX with 4800k miles when wrecked.

I polished the shields and covered the wires with loom and tape, cut off the toyota connectors and crimped new H4 connectors on them.

The After: Pictures weren't taken from same distance I realized after I looked at them.

I can take some pics later of the beam and cut off in the drivers seat.

Edit here are some quick and dirty pics from my iphone for now.

You can see there is a pretty defined cutoff, I think it's good for headlights made for Halogens.
Total cost for parts were a little over 200. Most expensive part being the Ballasts I bought for 125 shipped. I am told they cost over 400 each from Lexus.

I mounted the ballasts near the headlight, the driver's side was easy, passenger side I mounted under the headlight and on top of the windshield washer resevoir.

Ganda pare!!! I appreciate the work you have done and you can obviously see that it's well worth it, as well as safe to other drivers, which is a double thumbs up in everyones book

I was also researching of a similar setup such as this. We need parts and details and cut off pics ASAP!!! hehehehehe

quick question

the shields on the bulbs, are they positioned on the bottom inside the housing or on top? I just installed mine like 2 days ago, and the casper shield is positioned on the bottom, it only fit this way. I was told the are supposed to be positioned at the top inside the housing to reduce glare but it didnt fit properly and i couldn't close the metal clip behind the bulbs.

TIA

How big are the shields and how did they get installed? Would they work with any HID kit? This might be the best alternative to doing a full on retrofit.

Most aftermarket HID kits have the bulbs seated for the H4 housing, but the shields are designed to accept D2R/S bulbs, and then seated into the headlight. So it's not only a shield, but kind of like an adapter. So it depends on your kit. If it's made to just seat right into your headlight, then no, the shield will not work.

I'll try to illustrate. Think of the " >> " as like plugging into.

OEM: H4 bulbs>>Headlight

Alternate: D2R/S bulbs >> Casper Shield>>Headlight

I hope that sorta clears it

So you're best bet is to find OEM ballasts, get new OEM D2R/S bulbs at whichever K you like, then use the casper shield to fit them into the headlight.

I'm going to stop by my local junk yard and see if I can cough up some Infiniti or Acura ballasts.

So it's not as simple as I thought. Damn. Keep me posted on your progress pinoy.

BTW, how do you attach the DS2 bulb to the shield?

Lol I hope that wasn't directed towards me, I wasn't intending to thread jack. This is all EURO'z glory

As for difficulty, it's not hard at all trust me. It's literally as easy as lego.
Think of it as like putting in new bulbs into your headlights. All you're doing is putting the shield in between the bulb and the headlight

Ok, let me try to clear up a few things, thanks Pare, 1fitpinoy knows his stuff.

I got the Ballast from here:
eBay Motors: lexus hid ballasts, toyota, xenon, koito near new. mint (item 260380198275 end time Mar-26-09 12:30:15 PDT)

E-mail Alex directly, for some reason he posted up with QTY 4 so he might still have some. Ballasts came shipped properly and were in fantastic shape.

Yeah junkyards are also a great place to look for cheap ballasts. the reason I went with Toyota Lexus ones? they're the newer type which is a lot slimmer than the older ones you'll find, and they have a built-in ignitor. It's manufactured by Koito Denso, so you might find them in other japanese brands as well.

you can get the shields from HID expert.

some pics off his website.

question:
would a d2s hid kit work with this? rather than getting oem ballast/ignitors, would just buying an HID kit with d2s/d2r bulbs also work?

Yes D2S bulbs work with the casper shield.

As far as the whole HID kit, it would work, but you gotta pay to play naw mean

A lease?!? Well I hope you're not doing anything else to it other than this. If you are, then you're just wasting your time :P unless you have homeboi's and whatnot who can hook it up, then go right ahead lawlz

LOL AWESOME!!! You just totally supported retrofit

That goes for every Honda except for the S2000.

Last I checked RSXes didn't come with HIDs either. A Friend's '02 type S has the H1 kit, but glare up the yinyang. Did they offer HIDs in the jdm 04+ Integra Type Rs? I know the earlier ones had non and hid versions.

I had 98spec hid lights in my Integra GSR since 2002 which I just sold recently. My R32 came with self leveling BiXenon HIDs awesome for a non luxury car.

I bought the Fit as a Daily and for the wife, but I find myself replacing parts more for my own benefit. lol.
