A Pain In The Bu...cket Seat

I may be alone in this, but I have a problem with the bucket seats in my new Fit. I should have remembered that I had a similar problem in my Element a few years back, but I forgot in my enthusiasm for the new model.

The sides of the bucket seat, evidently, press on my sciatic nerve, causing me to have the sensation of sitting right on the plastic edge rather than padding. It is only mild pain, but it is persistent.

If I hold the seat flat with my hand the pressure goes away, but obviously I can't drive like that.

Has anyone else had this problem? Found a solution?

I have thought about making a contoured cushion out of memory foam that might give the sensation of flattening the seat (even if it does raise me up a bit). I have also thought of trying to drive while sitting on my plexiglass cutting board, which would actually flatten the seat. If that worked maybe I could get a custom piece cut to the shape of the rear of the seat.

Any suggestions, expensive or hair-brained appreciated.

2 options.

1. add/remove foam where needed, reshape the seat. Issue with this is you'll have to uncover, recover your seat.

2. Get new seats. You can probably get seats from another car fairly cheap (civic, integra, rsx etc) or get aftermarket seats. This one is more expensive due to the cost of the seats + rails, and you end up with an aftermarket look, instead of stock.

The choice is yours.

Yes, I have thought of both those options as well.

Are there specialty shops that might be able to reshape a seat?

Any auto upholstery shop should be able to do it. Just make sure you take it one with a good rep or a place where you're OK with the quality of work.

buy some racing seats :D

On a more serious note, I have absolutely no problems with the seats...they're not as comfy as my corolla seats from back in the day, but they don't bother me at all.

Got the same problem. My wife was at "Bed Bath and Beyond" the other day and bought me a wedge shaped cushion made for extra padding for $14.99 or something like that. I do sit higher but it solved the problem. If you find a better way then please post again.

Looks like you aren't alone, here's another thread on this topic:
