Hood project for 09 fit :)

This was actually done quite some time ago but we realized that the mold shrunk .5 of an inch since it was done under harsh weather conditions. And then the replica was made from that mold which came out wrong and we didnt know it until we were about ready to make a mold of that one so we can create the first hood for a member. We didn't know what else to do besides throw it out and start fresh. So not too long ago that's what we did but I didn't post pictures yet. SO I will now just to show you guys the hood build. Its almost finished (no current pictures) and the mold will be created before the end of this week, then the member's hood will be created in black and whtie carbon fiber and shipped so its at his place in time for the June show season

What do you guys think? No changes can be made since its already cut the way it needs to be. The hood will be finished tomorrow.

We first started by using the carbon fiber hood mold to create a replica hood.

Then we trimmed it, measured the scoop and made the cut lines.

We cut the hood and built the shape out of carving foam.

The measureing, cutting, and building the scoop took us minuites. Just to show how fast we work ;-)

Tomorrow we will do the final sanding as it has its ifnal shape, and then primer it to show you guys the finished design.

Hope you guys like!

I think it looks pretty good. Can't wait to see the finished product. I do think you should make rain gutters for the underside.

Is the original metal hood part of the front collision protection in order to absorb the impact energy? By switching it to carbon fiber, would it function the same? Carbon fibre is strong, but it shatters during impact. I wonder it is as effective as metal hood. Just a thought.

Very good point Vwli. A number of mods people do are actually "reverse engineering". Honda and other car manufactures are making every effort to make their cars more efficient and safer, yet some of the stuff we do works against their efforts.

A clear case for example is DRL. We all know what its for, yet some people deactivate for no good reason other than the "cool" factor or just to be different.

Not to start a controversy here, just expressing my observation. It's a free world and it's your own car....do whatever makes you happy.

Cheers and drive safe.

i guess it's time to stamp the "off-road applications only" sticker on the finished hood then.

Back from the deadddd

Was this project ever finished? any pics?

I was curious why no one ever cuts and bends the other way in order to create a ram air type of depression in the hood and maybe on just the intake side.

If you can make something like this i will pay good money for it!
