the fiesta is total vaporware in my opinion. they've been talking about it for years but still have no product to sell in the usa. when it finally does get here, it will be made in mexico and its going to be a totally different car than what is selling in europe. all of the current fiesta reviews mean nothing because the the car they are reviewing will not be sold in the usa. at the present time, the north american fiesta does not exist, and nobody can tell you when it will exist.
the fit is a great vehicle with a proven track record and its available here in the usa right now. in my opinion, you just cannot compare something that is real to something that is imaginary.

good point on that one. But it most certainly is coming - The 2011 Ford Fiesta - Coming Stateside Early 2010 | The official site of the Ford Fiesta | FordVehicles.com
Only hope that it performs as well as it does in Europe! If it does indeed, I think I'm willing to trade that for less cargo space, no offense to the Honda Fit

Irrelevant. I'm just posting the news, I don't think any Fit owners need to feel threatened about it
I truly hope that the Ford Fiesta is a successful and reliable car - time will tell. Based on all my anecdotal experiences of friends who have owned Escorts and Focus' vs. Civics/Corollas, the reliability factor always seems to slide in favor of the Honda/Toyota.
Utility was the biggest reason I went with the Fit. I clunkered a pickup for the Fit and with the seats down, I can carry a good amount of stuff.

Even in Europe where ford reliability is better Fit still beats Fiesta...
Imagine the piece of crap U.S. is going to get for the Fiesta.

i remember the Ford Fiesta in the 90's is a rebadged KIA PRIDE...
I'll choose a stock FIT than a Modified Fiesta
This is a critical point (sarcasm)-the Kia Pride was a rebadged Ford Festiva, not Fiesta. This is an oft made error as the 2 vehicles (Festiva and Fiesta) existed at approximately the same time.
As a former Festiva owner (234K miles over 10 years) and present Fit owner, I had to clarify this point.

And this is for the top 10 MOST reliable cars in Europe? lol if I were to choose the Fiesta, I think I could live with it being the 5th most.
many acronyms for ford growing up
F*cker Only Runs Downhill
Fix Or Repair Daily
Found On Road Dead
That being said, many things have changed since the shit they produced in the 80s. If they bring the high performance version of the fiesta over, i will be one of the first in line to check it out. Times have changed, thankfully.

The problem I have is with fords longevity. Initially, it can look sweet, feel awesome, drive like a champ, and in five years start falling to pieces. That has been my experience with ford- good for a while, hell in the end. Sorry to say.

In case you haven't seen the Top Gear review of the Fiesta, you should, it's hilarious:
YouTube - Jeremy's Extreme Ford Fiesta road test
(Spoiler: there's a chase scene against a corvette in a mall)
I love my Fit, but if they bring it over without messing with it and price it under the Fit... it would be pretty good competition I think...

I saw one a month or so ago here in L.A.
It looks great on the outside. There are reviews of how it's supposed to have better materials in the interior compared to the Fit, but I've heard from one review that it still feels cheap and the quality is lacking, such as misaligned pieces.
It should serve as another Fit alternative, but they ARE different cars. Honda engineered space and space flexibility into the Fit. Ford didn't do so in the Fiesta. So even if the Fiesta is more fun to drive than the Fit, it should. And about that close-to-40 mpg EPA estimate, I'll believe it when I see it. OTOH, Honda needs to give another Fit to the EPA to test. I just calculated my mileage and I got 39.5 mpg /42.2 gauge, and that was with mixed L.A. driving, but lots of highway. I know I achieve deep into the forties on the highway, so I don't quite understand how the EPA found 33 mpg hwy.
