My fit is poop
My fit is poop
I feel as if there is something wrong with my Fit. Just doesn't drive smooth, get like 27mpg when Im hearing from others they get the very lowest 30mpg when they beating the hell outta it. I took it to dealer and they checked/test drove it and the guy said theres no problem "its a fit". Im not really familiar with car stuff so if i take it to a mechanic are they able to thoroughly check it?
btw i get 27mpg and no i dont gas it every sec i get.

op, What do you mean by doesn't drive smooth?
Also, what's your driving environment? The number one killer of fuel economy is quicker accelerations from a stop. if you "get on it" as soon as a light changes or at every stopsign, you'll have low fuel economy. The majority of economy is lost under acceleration.
one way to test your efficiency is to take it on the highway and reset your trip meter. keep it at 55 or 60mph for a few miles and you should be 40-50mpg on the computer (as long as you are on a flat stretch of road) Get it up to 70 or 80 and your economy will drop. if this is the case and you are up around 40mpg, the engine/car is fine and you need to change your driving habits, if not take it back to the dealer and let them know your findings.
My AVG MPG (calculated) is in my sig and the one thing I don't do alot of is Rev the car over 4000rpm. I shift low too (but not so low as to lug the engine).

Has anybody adjusted the valves on it yet? If you hear a faint clacking noise with the roughness, it's your valve adjustment. The valve adjustment on this car is like on a motorcycle. If you don’t know how to do it yourself, I wouldn’t take it to Honda dealer or a car shop. I would take it to a performance bike shop to get it done.
Is your air filter clean?
Has the catalytic converter been banged? If it has, the honeycomb could have broken up and could have constricted your exhaust.

epa rating is what, 27 city, 33 highway? "some will get more or less depending on driving habits"
Sounds like it's fine to me.
I get 32mpg tank after tank driving the same pattern around metro Atlanta (probably 70% steady speeds on the interstate and 30% "stop and go" driving).
Like somebody suggested, take it on the highway for a 100 miles or so. I think I'd fill it before leaving and fill it when you get back and calculate your mileage. Bet you can't fit more than 3 gallons in it when you get back. This still isn't that accurate: you need the average over several fill-ups; different pumps will cut-off at slightly different amounts of fill.
The mpg computer is wildly optimistic.

My gauge on the dash ALWAYS says 34 mpg. I dont think this is accurate. I'm thinking 34 would be accurate on the freeway but not every day driving to and from work. Is this a common problem?
To confirm, when you reset the trip computer to zero, the trip computer and the mpg tracking should also zero out. Have you ever reset the trip computer? If you haven't and you have xthousand miles on the odometer it's going to be tough to make a dent in your avg mpg. Is the little meter moving showing your real-time mpg? Are you seeing deviations in that number depending on how you're driving?
If you have reset it, are you saying as soon as you start driving the mpg tracking goes to 34mpg and never changes? You can't make it deviate from that? If you jump on it? Let it roll in neutral etc? If that's the case, then yes something sounds like it's wrong. I would expect you to see deviation continually over a tank of gas unless you're taking the same route, same basic driving routine.
Some of the earlier advice seems to be a good way to test it as well.
Good luck...

Thanks for all the replys. and no i havent been REDLINING it. I do tend to accelerate alittle fast after a complete stop so maybe thats why. I always reset trip after i pump and i use to always get 30 mpg but right now i pumped 10 gallons and its almost at the E and ive driven only 16X miles... uh oh? Ill re-pump and then do the highway test thing to see wats going on. Thanks for all the tips.
That's no real information about your car though, as has been requested. What year is it? How many miles are on it? Have you kept up with the oil? Do you carry considerable extra weight in the car normally? Can't help without those basics. If all your driving is truly stop and go- murderously so, you're gonna see your gas gauge drop right before your eyes- especially if you gun it from full stop. And gunning is wide open for interpretation. You don't have to baby this car, nor will traffic behind you stand for it in most cases. But blasting away from full stop all the time will eat up gas in a hurry, especially coupled with nasty city driving.
And I sure hope you're not really driving around immersed in poop. That would stink, quite literally.

low air pressure in your tires negatively affect mpg. i'm pretty sure that's what HONDAMATIC meant in his post.
What i meant when i said it doesnt drive smooth is that sometimes wen i accelerate it goes really smooth with nice acceleration but other times it feels like i gotta gas it little more to get the same acceleration. so basically it feels like less power somtimes and i gotta gas more to get it going and other times it just goes smooth with no problem. And the shitty part about this is that it does it SOMETIMES so even wen i took it to dealer they dont noe.
