because (for the majority of times) US built cars aren't as robust as Japan made japanese cars...and honestly, for me, made in japan was a selling point for me on the fit.

Especially when it says "100%" next to Japan.

Hopefully, if they're made in America, they might get a better paint job. There's way to much primer showing on mine where there ought to be orange paint and clearcoat.

^i think made in japan paint are better than US made ones. our old 88 corolla had perfect, non-faded paint...but my old 98 corolla faded like crazy! 88 was made in japan and the 98 was US

Don't understand this... My Ridgeline has been a CHAMP and it is 85% US made. It's not like you hear about the "BAD Honda" that was made in the US.. even on Honda boards. Regardless of where the Fit is Assembled, chances are, the motor will come from japan... and that's the part that matters most. Now nissans.... they vary from factory to factory, not just country to country... I'd have no problems driving an American built FIT. Sure there will be little flaws... but I'm sure there are little flaws in my Sport that won't be there in an American built Fit. Maybe they'll get the Fuel Economy gauge right if built over here.

Also, from an Economic standpoint, this is going to bring more jobs back from the dead due to the slumping US economy. Imagine how many FITs could have been sold if it had been built here during the C4C Program... especially if Honda had marketed the FIT as being built in the US. Plus, with engines likely to come from Japan, More cargo containers will go back filled with Soybeans from Honda Trading's Soybean Fields meaning more farmers have jobs or crops...

IMO, this is a Win/Win for the US

Nah... They won't drop... This means that they aren't going to go up.

Me too.

Our family have had many Honda cars.

77 Civic
80 Accord
81 Civic
84 Accord
89 Civic Si
2009 Fit

All made in Japan. No problems whatsoever with paint, rust, engine, etc.

I bought a 2006 Ridgeline. Made in Canada. The design of the truck and quality of parts used were great, but build was not. Let's see, side mirror glass fell off, two cabin leaks (big ones), folding seats not staying up, etc. I still love the truck, but just not the quality I expected from Honda. A few buddys of mine who drive NA built EF's have horrible rust issues. Again, the engines are fine.

i really disagree w/ a lot of the opinions here. i'd absolutely love it if the FiT, hell, any damn import were built here. i really doubt quality would take a hit.

...and let's be honest here, honda paint isn't going to last you long no matter where it's built. almost every honda/acura that my family has been through (and we've been through about 7) has had rubbish paint after 7 years or so. it doesn't help to live on the coast like we all do but my 20 year old bimmer still has way better paint than my sister's 8 year old odyssey.

just a couple months ago when i was thinking about getting a fit, one of the officers in my building was telling me about a problem with his wife's late model accord that was 100% sourced and built in japan. he took it in to the dealership thinking that the passenger's side window had broken regulators. they opened up the panel in front of him since it was to be a really quick job. turns out there were 5 empty cans of budweisers in the door. weird...i'd rather be holding a sapporo than a bud any night.

Wow, Budweisers in Japan.............

Maybe aftermarket stereo was installed. Highly doubt that story.

Maybe GM paint would be better choice.

Last I remember BMW vehicles are built in Germany.

all j-brand cars made in the US and canada failed me so far within the first 2 years of ownership... so i know wat you mean. i speak from experience.

all j-brand cars that were made in japan have not...even after 6yrs. there is a difference.

in my line of work, i get to know a lot of liars...this guy isn't one of them. i'm not saying japanese workers are slacking off, i'm saying this particular group was playing a joke. we hear of these tales from time to time. isolated as they may be, they don't always have to be dismissed as events that never occurred.

as for my BMW comment, i was just using that as an example of my dashed expectations when it comes to a newish vs. a much older vehicle's paint condition.

Your 1984 Accord was built in Marysville Ohio. I had one also and it was a great car. Still one of my favorite Hondas.

My 2003 Acura CL built in Ohio seemed more like an american car but it was fine. The Fit seems a little more well screwed together for costing half as much.

I think it's a good thing they will build them here. Nice to have one of the early ones though. Looks like the Fit will be a popular car for a while. I'll bet the destination charge stays the same.
