Cool Portable GPS

I just bought a Garmin 755T from Costco, to use in my 2009 Honda Fit Sport [which I LOVE!] I'm not sure where/how to place the unit--- the Fit's windshield and dash are deeper than most cars.

Has anyone else used one of the portable GPS units in their Fit? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks--

you can get the beanbag mount for the dash... the suction cup sticks to the mount and the mount just sits securely on the dash. You might be able to stick it to the small window just in front of the driver's door too if the suction mount is versatile enough.

Here is mine. I used J and B weld to glue the disc to the dash.

Thanks to both of you! I have heard that the bean bag mount is good because you can easily remove it [so it won't get stolen?] How do ya'll remove yours? One more, kind of dumb, question-- will the cord connecting it to the power supply be a problem? [Especially if it is mounted more towards the steering wheel?]

Thank you again-- I really am a "rookie" about all this!

No problem to remove. The suction cup part comes off easily to be stored leaving just the flat dics. I have not had a problem with the cord in this location.

Thanks-- the Garmin is supposed to be here in about a week. Will I need to buy anything besides the gule to mount it?

I'd consider the beanbag approach. The disks themselves are self-adhesive so extra gule shouldn't be necessary, but I'm afraid it would damage the plastic pulling it off. Also leaving the disk is a tell-tale sign you have a GPS in your glove box. We don't all live in Canada...

(Daughter had her driver's window smashed at a nice suburban Cobb county high school in a smash and grab for her GPS. Damage to her Accord was about $900 (seat cover and door trim besides the window) not to mention the GPS. I'm a bit touchy on the subject.)

I understand what you're saying-- especially since there is nowhere to really lock anything up in the Fit. [One of my few complaints about it] Any recommendations on types of beanbags? [ Costco has one with wings, but the one in the above picture looks pretty good] Thanks-

Nope, daughter uses suction on the windshield. The one I linked to seems popular and the price is good. I use a map or intuition (I spend a lot of time lost).

One of the cool things about the Garmin is that you can enter multiple way points and it'll calculate the shortest route between them, ordering them correctly (multi-point routing). The traffic function in metro Atlanta is pretty useless. I had to disable this because the reroutes always put me on surface roads even though they would take longer with rush-hour traffic than the interstates.

Maybe but will take the chance here in Canada eh. The adhesive on the disc will not work. I tried it and in no time the Garmin was on the floor. I do not plan on taking the disc off so not too worried about the dash.

i've never had a problem w/ the garmin disc coming off. i find that the double-sided tape that's on it is very strong. on my older BMW, it's been on there for 3+ years. perhaps some of you did not thoroughly clean your dash mounting spot?

also, to hide evidence of a GPS in the car, i place a small stuffed toy on the disc when i'm parked in less than trustworthy places.

yes, but us manly men can't do that. it's almost more than we can bear driving a Fit!

i stopped caring about my perceived manliness a long time ago. i'm a much happier person that way. ...and dude, like you said...we drive a "cute" car. no sense trying to deny it, just embrace it and use it to your advantage.

I have a TOMTOM mounted using the suction cup method on my windshield w/o any issues.

Yeah, the times I've used one, mounting it at the top of the windshield to the right of the rear-view mirror works. Well within reach and it doesn't obstruct vision.

I'll probably just do that, until I get a beanbag [which sounds like the best choice for easy removal] Thanks-- L.

i put mine in the little window. its great because it does not obscure your line of sight, and it still easy to see. i ran the charging cord under the dash and then up the doorjam seal.
