Not stable at 100km/h?!?! That is pathetic really. The Fit at least in GE form feels the same at 175km/h as it does 30km/h. I'm quite surprised to hear this, because Mazda usually puts out a decent product, but maybe they are saving it for the Speed version or something, but still the chassis from the get go should have already communicated a sense of stability to the driver.

Once the aftermarket picks up in 2 years we will reign as kings. Wait until we start striping parts off the '11s '12s when Honda does the refresh.

Stable at 175km/h. Hmm, I'll question that one.

Why? The fit is stable all the way to the speed governor which kicks in between 110mph and 115mph. Many professional reviewers who have driven it on a test track have commented that it feels just as stable at 110mph as it does at 60 mph. 175kmh is about 109mph. Love thy fit.

My Civic will do 175km/h easy and very stable, but my Jazz GE gets very jumpy at 130km/h unless you're on a perfect road. It doesn't mean it a bad drive.

There are threads for & against on fitfreak.

On NA roads the car is very stable at 110 mph. I am lowered though so that probably helps tremendously. I would push it more but the little engine that could just doesn't have enough power. The stability is not the "holding it back" issue. It's the 1.5L engine (which is fine by me) and of course the governor at 113 mph

Im from Turkey and I own both cars currently

My mazda 2 is a 1.3 high (86 hp) which comes with 16 alloys (195 45 16) , front fogs, digital AC, 6 airbags, all electric windows..

My honda jazz is 1.3 (some say 1.4 but actually 1.34) fun which comes with 16 alloys (185 55 16) , front fogs, panorma roof,VSA, 8 airbags, digital AC, Cruise control, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights etc..

Small mods done as clear LED taillights and spoiler to Mazda 2 (now i call sexyback) and modulo style front grille and honda sport knob to jazz (spoiler will be mounted on April)

Both cars are manual transmission cars.

Mazda 2 is better at handling , but slightly better. Its not a concern in everyday driving IMHO..But if you will push to the limits this will be a concern I think...My Mazda 2 has no ESP and TCS ...And shes also more stable at high speeds , Jazz being effected too much from sidewinds Mazda2 has no other advantages.

Jazz is slightly better performing car. Acceleration is better and top speed is far better too.

Both cars need lowering springs IMHO. Mazda 2 for a better look and jazz for a better high speed driving..

Mazda 2 has a very hard clutch pedal. Its a torture to drive at traffic jams, honda's clutch far better lighter and never makes you tired. Jazz would be my choice just for this reason if she were a worse car....

After all, I dont think Mazda2 will be the choice just for shes better cornering...

I paid 51% more money to jazz so Mazda2 would be the choice only being a reasonably priced car

A friend of mine runs a local motoring magazine website. They pitted the 2 and the GE8 against each other.

Happy reading

We're getting the sedan version of the 2 later on in the year. That car WILL get the manual.

Inexplicably the hatch doesn't.

The hatchback is aimed at soccer moms... The vehicle to haul very tiny soccer players.

too bad (in my opinion) that the Mazda 2's interior design looks like crap. I like it's exterior design (i don't find it necessarily better than the fit's, but i like it as well as), and i'm sure it's ride/handling will be excellent. I also drive a mazda protege and it goes like the dickens, has great fit/finish and has been completely reliable. I wonder what the fuel economy of the Mazda 2 is...? But i feel like they messed up with the interior on the 2...unless they were going for the mini cooper feeling. and no mt for the hatch? don't get it. and i seriously doubt that they are marketing this for the "soccer mom crowd," i don't think any soccer mom is interested in driving a sub-compact car...they prefer the big, safe, high-view vehicles.

I dunno. I saw a lot of cool little cars at the Toronto Auto Show, including the Mazda 2, the Fiesta, etc. etc. They all had better quality interiors than my Fit, for sure. But then I folded down the back seat and I was like "Really? That's it?"

It looks too much like a Yaris to me, even if it does drive good.

It's smaller than the Yaris inside, too.

As long as it doesn't resemble a 59 Edsel I 'll be happy with it.

Hahaha!

According to the local motoring press, Mazda Philippines seems to have aimed the 2 hatchback to first-time motoring women...so you weren't too wide of the mark.

Still a mistake on their part though IMO.

Remember a song from the early 2000s entitled "Volvo-driving Soccer Mom?" I think that was performed by Everclear.

Off-topic, sorry.
