Stock Air / Pollen Filters
Stock Air / Pollen Filters
My service minder popped up about replacing / cleaning the air and pollen filters on my 09 Fit.
Are the stock air filters cleanable / reuseable? Or should I drop the $40 on a new air filter?
What about pollen filters?
Thanks.

Don't pay dealer price on those filters, run a search for suppliers of Honda parts which have less expensive parts like Majestic Honda, Bernardi Parts and Handa Accessories.
Oh, and the Honda OEM air filters can be gently brushed/vacuumed as a temporary measure, but a new filter is the best choice.

Does Honda offer standard pleated paper and activated charcoal cabin filters? I know some manufacturers offer both for different prices.
From what I've seen on cars that I work on all day, I'd replace the cabin filter every time you change your oil. Cabin filters get dirty REALLY fast, and can trap a lot of shit you don't want in your HVAC system. For the $20 or so bucks you cant go wrong.
Ive seen quite a few cabin filters that haven't been changed in 50k miles - its not pretty.

It would be helpful if someone were to create a sticky for DIY cabin filter change. Is the procedure the same for GD and GE? This is an application where a cleanable filter such as a K&N actually makes some sense.
Just to clarify, I was kidding about the K&N.
The procedure is pretty simple. You just remove the stuff from the lower glove box and then kinda squeeze the left and right sides of the box (compress them towards the middle). The goal is to get the box past the little stops so it hinges all the way down instead of stopping at those bump stops. With the glove box rotated out of the way, you can see the slot where the filter goes and it's pretty obvious how it comes out. At about a year and 12k miles I pulled mine out. There were some leaves and stuff in there and I just turned it upside down and tapped it out on the driveway for now. Next time I'm at a dealer or place an order I'll pick up a replacement. I actually wasn't opening it up to check the filter but wanted to spray some Febreeze/Lysol into the heater core to get rid of the musty smell.

Good grief- there's a dash light reminder for a freakin air filter? How long did it take for THAT to come on? I hope it can be cleared because there's not much chance I'm gonna go nuts over a filter that I've never changed in any car I've ever owned. And this one has a LIGHT minder no less? Yeah- that'll be cleared faster than you can spell it.
Wait- are you talking about a service minder in your honda account on line?
