I haven't driven a GE8, but I own a GD3. That being said, I have driven a tc on a few occasions.

Hands down a Fit is much more fun to drive. The Scion is definitely faster in a straight line, but it isn't anything special from behind the wheel.

Fit ftw.

What do you want? A 2-DR Coupe or a 4-Dr Hatch? Reliability wise, you can't go wrong with either. Performance-wise and mod-capable, the tc will be better but for hauling (Family, Stuff, etc...), the Fit is a winner. I prefer the feel of Honda's 5MT over Toyota's as well.

The Scion tC is a stylish adaption of the Avensis:

It is the Toyota equivalent of the European Accord.

I will offer Kudos to Toyota for marketing it as an affordable car in the US rather than trying to slap an Acura Badge on it like Honda did with the Euro-spec Accord (TSX)

As you stated, they are in different classes - it depends on what you want in your car.

If you want to drive an appliance, save yourself $19,000 and sit on your stove and make racing noises.

In other words, buy the Fit. Much more entertaining to drive and your stove will be happy.

The tc has a toyota camry 4-cylinder that sounds like a tractor mated to an antiquated 4 speed automatic. nuff said.

But I do like the glass roof and pioneer sound system.....and the styling and the rims and the turn signal mirror...actually it's not that bad but the powertrain is just too awful to ignore.

so my friend has a TC and I have a fit.

the TC has much better legroom in the front cuz of the 2 door coupe style. the stock sound system is also better with the Pioneer head unit. the sunroof is a nice touch. bigger wheels, turn signals in the mirror, projector headlights, good cargo space, torquey engine, has a engine temp. gauge

the fit is funner to drive, more cargo space, better for 4-5 people seating, USB thumb drive reader for music (sport model), 5mt is much much better than the long shifter on the TC, a lot of cup holders.

it depends on what you really want. if you want a fun to drive car with cargo then fit ftw. if you just want something for yourself that is comfortable for daily and most of the time is just 1-2 people in the car, then the TC isnt bad.

both are 100% made in japan..so you cant go wrong with either.

the biggest gripe i have about the TC in Southern California is that everyone has one. and I've seen more girls drive a TC than a girl driving a fit. (although both are consider a girl car)

i personally feel that the TSX is a rip-off $. either get an Accord, or go for the TL. or if you really want something TSX-sise, then get an is250. you'll be happier!

actually performance wise the tC's are overweight turds, and they don't handle very well

a pretty built tC will struggle to keep up with a stock GSR

Motor Trend wasn't thrilled with the TC, giving it 2 stars, and a snarky summary: "Past ITS use-by date." The bigger engine will give you a lot more low end torque than the Fit's 1.5L, but at the cost of worse gas mileage. Test drive each, and see which "fits" your needs.

While I don't have my FIT just yet, I did have an 07 tC...

If you're getting a manual, it's a really stiff clutch, nowhere near as light as the FIT's...pain to drive in stop-and-go traffic

Mileage wise, I averaged 24, best I got was 31 on an all-highway trip from PA to MI...looking forward to better mileage with my FIT.

Overall, the tC just felt heavy, and it couldn't handle nearly as well as the FIT does.

It has a rather large blind spot in the back when reversing, that always annoyed me. Cargo room is puny, and it doesn't come with a rear wiper, something I think ALL hatchbacks should have, regardless of the angle of the rear window.

Foglamps were options, and pricey ones from the dealer, so I went aftermarket. They're standard on the FIT Sport.

The 17" tires on the tC are more expensive to replace than the 16's on the FIT.

However, I had it for 2 years, and had ZERO problems with it. 31,000 miles and not a squeak, rattle, issue, or problem. Like everyone else has said, it just depends on your specific needs. But I say go for the FIT!

I had a set of 80" bifold doors in my Fit the other day and had tons of room to close the hatch, carry the rest of the stuff I got at the hardware store and still have a seat for my wife.

Can tC do that?

Do you need a car that can do that?

Functionality aside, I always liked the look of the tC but it always seemed too expensive for what it is.

(sidenote: some people can be ignorant so you'll have to wade through the crap to see for people who are answering your question honestly. this is the same on EVERY forum I've ever been on. Others forget that often times many of us [on vehicle specific forums] are more than just FIT enthusiasts, but car enthusiasts. I'm sure it would be the same on scion forums as well however.)

Let us know what you chose and best of luck with either.

i would probably get the fit cause of mpg and not that many people have it. also i noticed that the scion tc has a glass roof. now i dont really think thats safe and a lot of people also drive it.

Good choice. (not that you really had a bad choice between the two but...). Do you plan on leaving it stock? also, I'd recommend reading up on the economy threads on this board. There is a wide range in economy of this vehicle, primarily depending on how you drive it (and naturally your driving environment). dont' expect to be able to mash the gas from stoplight to stoplight and get 35+mpg. Take it easy on the gas, and plan ahead (let off the gas a little earlier and let the engine slow you down as you get to a stoplight.) and you'll be rewarded with 37+mpg... Also, it's not a power house (obviously) but it's a blast to toss around in the twisties.

if you are planning on mods, I'd recommend looking at lightening the car when possible to improve performance. There's not alot out there that adds power but there are definitely ways of reducing weight. either way, you increase your power/weight ratio which is good.
