Here comes another buzz killer!

"The FM now sounds crisp and clear, and broadcast HD stereo fills the car with music as well as any MP3 or CD can"

I inferred sound quality from that statement, not signal strength.

Buzz killer? The guy is anything but buzz killing. People never cease to amaze me.

Here's a buzz killer- there's nothing worth listening to on the radio to justify the STOCK antenna, let alone a longer one. For what- to tune in more commercials in my life?! I can't bring myself to pay for satellite radio, but that's the only way to go now imo. And if was gonna put up with a long antenna on my fit, it would be for a CB- not the AM/FM band, that's for sure.

Have fun buzzin' though.

I can't speak for the others, but there's a very fine FM college station near by that only plays jazz and very few commercials. Too bad you aren't so blessed. Good luck with the CB thing.

I personally swapped over an older Passat antenna, and the difference is huge.

NOTHING worth listening to on the radio? -That's sad...
Maybe you should broaden your horizons a little? There are plenty of college and PBS stations that broadcast great classical, good jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, alternative pop, and also historical musical anthologies of great artists. -And this goes on all the time, with little or no commercials, so it's free!

-Want to try an experiment?
-See that little round knob in the middle of your Fit's radio?
Try twisting it once in a while, and listen to what occurs...

But then of course you COULD always pay for satellite radio, as you said, where you could listen to the likes of Howard Stern and Don Imus alla time? (-What a joy that would be, right?)

Sorry, Moniz, you ARE a Buzz Kill. Stop digging the whole deeper! And anyhow, your "factual" info, don't mean shite, as hearing is only the sensation created in our brain, and that, my friend, is all that matters to anyone who can actually hear. On the other hand, if you are talking about a "robot" or some kind of computer that lacks *subjective* sensations (such as the experience of hearing), then, yes, your "factual" numbers and such apply. But not in this OP's case. Thanks for the info, though.

LOL! I DO spin the dial often, but more often than not it's a wild goose chase. I have a very diversified set of stations programmed into the radio. Sadly, outside of college radio it's all just some tunes sprinkled in between commercials. The only AM station I listen to is 1010 WINS news in NY. It's a very sad commentary about the state of affairs on the FM band. I seriously think they've given up trying, figuring or planning on satallite taking over- although I don't know about that one. But don't think satallite is just Stern, who I like and miss. Not Imus...please. For serious tunage there's simply no beating it, really. But when I was in my 20's, I didn't pay for a freakin TV signal- now I pay thousands a year for a whole bunch of crap on cable. I can't give in to paying for the damn radio too. I make my own collections and use my mp3 player. And now with a cd player STOCK in the car [yes, my last car didn't have one!] I prefer cd's too.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the stock antenna does fine...for all that the radio's worth. Good luck with the extension though.

Well then, let me continue buzz killing! Whole?

And like I said beforw, if it sounds good to you then fine, but if you can't tell the difference between frequencies(eg a mushy or muted cymbal crash and a crisp clear cymbal crash), then you need to have a doctor check your hearing. And I'm not being facetious, it could mean you are having some form of hearing loss as the higher frequencies are the first to go.

I want to defend your points somehow but your approach to getting your message across has pretty much made it pointless. The argument isn't even really about sound quality, it's about fucking semantics.

Thanks... It (the radio) is now playing extremely better with the Pep Boys (Meta) 30" antenna than when it only had the stocker, or even with the Toyota Matrix one... (I recalled the Toyota antenna!!)
The stereo sound is much crisper, and louder and clearer on all counts!

I have the base Fit, so no fancy Ipod mp3 connection for me. However the base player will still play mp3 libraries off a CD, but I just haven't gotten around to downloading any yet. I am looking forward to doing that too, just so I can hear those extra crisp cymbals Monitz keeps gabbing about!
(-Egads! It seems one's cymbals must be extra ~CRISP~, or why bother listening?? -But didn't I hear that digital mp3 also restricts sound range? -Perhaps I should install an analog vinyl record player under the dash too???)

And even with an available CD mp3 library, I see nothing wrong with getting the (now very good) radio to play the best HD and stereo sound it can muster.. And if all it takes is a bigger $10 antenna (at least that's what worked for me?), WTH should I not do it? And I also get a kick out of how the Fit looks with that long ~string~ sticking up out of the top of it's roof....

Regards to all audiophiles here... No offense meant; I guess I'm just happy and content with a little less than perfection sometimes, okay?

I think the OP originally said, in a manner of speaking, of course, (unless you would like to continue with the semantics -- thank you for the semantics analogy, secondspassed) once installing the new antenna, his former "muted cymbal crashes" instantly became more likened to "resoundingly crisp and clear cymbal crashes".

Matter of fact, the OP was only saying his flippin' AM and FM signals were stronger, with more clarity, than prior to his installing the new antenna for God's (or somebody's) sake! How did this thread become elevated (or diminished) to an all-out braggadocian audiophile's haven for sonic nothingness, especially considering it was only in regards to a flippin' cheap-@$$ed antenna?

I mean, I'm just sayin'...

Let it go, man... don't buy the antenna... refuse to believe it created better fidelity... whatever!

After the dealer showed me what all the buttons did the first day I owned mine, I don't think I've ever turned the radio on. I leave mine on the USB hook-up and listen to commercial free Rise Against marathons all the time.

Wow, it's pretty easy to get everyone's panties in a bunch around here!

All I ever said is that, yeah, I'm sure it sounds better, no question, but all I pointed out is in absolute truth, it can never actual sound as good, FREQUENCY wise as original sound sources, where the upper frequency range is not clipped off like it is on the FM band(don't like cymbals? How about high guitar notes).

You can call actual facts semantics all you want, but the real semantic is saying that the radio now sounds as good as a CD/MP3(high quality rip), which is completely fair. To each is own. Where did I say, the OP CAN NOT feel this way? Next your going to tell me the Fit feels as fast as a (pick you favorite supercar). You're entitled to feel that way, but in reality you got to know it's not.

You completely miss my point. You've been right the whole time, you've just been uptight about it.

As someone who has spent many a year with a SIXTY TWO inch antenna whipping around for my CB, I'll advise to just be careful. Three places you want to be the most cautious-

1- parking garages
2- drive throughs
3- mechanic [the car goes on a lift and will whack the antenna]

I don't know how bad you'll have it with only 30 inches. Just be careful and remove it when or if need be. My opinion- a good size antenna makes a car look that much more sporty. Man, I miss my CB!!

Enjoy your crankin radio. For such a cheap investment for so much 'gain', it seems like a no brainer.

This where the internet sucks. I can see how my language might seem uptight, but trust me I wasn't trying to downplay the OP's perception, which as far as he see's it, is correct, just providing some context. Nobody needs to be an audiophile to appreciate music. Hell, I actually miss some of the crackles and pops of of listening to vinyl, because of the overall sound experience, even though it's fair to say, those sounds can sometimes take away from the music. Let's face though, MP3 and MP3 players have made your music much easier to access and listen to anywhere, and that's what really matters. And if the radio is your thing, then great! Variety makes the world go round!

I know how it goes. I often have to really ask myself "does this actually matter, to anyone at all?" when I feel the urge to correct someone or throw out some knowledge on FF, because I find most of the time I end up just feeling like a troll.
