Good deal at the end of the year?
I've basically made up my mind that I'll be purchasing a Fit in the next few months, white Sport w/a manual. As I don't anticipate many changes for the 2011 model year, I thought about picking up a 2010 at the end of the model year to save a few bucks, if there's a significant difference. I know there's not much markup on these cars to begin with, however, so if there's no benefit to buying a 2010 at a lower cost, I might as well buy a 2011. Anyone else had any experience 2009/2010 buyers?

I bought 2009 Base MT at the end of 2010 January.
It was $1000 under invoice and around 1200 less then carsdirect best number.
Plus dealer installed keyless/security and armrest for free.
Could not do the real compare with 2010 since they did not have MT available anywhere around.

I'm in no rush to buy a car. Worst case, I'll just order what I want (Sport w/no options). My wife and I are closing on our house this Friday and I'll finally be able to spend some money on our 3rd car.
Sounds like there's not much of a reason to wait, though I may just put the purchase off long enough to order one of the first 2011s.

wait for summer days which is around august september. this is the end of the fiscal year and when they have the 2011 switchover. in general that is the best time to buy. right now they have .9% and 1.9% financing which is awesome. in reality, the best time to buy is when you are good and ready to buy and are comfortable buying the car at the price you get and wont regret it later if it turns out to be cheaper in a month or a week.
I don't think I'd cry over $1k, but I wouldn't sneeze at it either.
I've been searching dealers in my area, and then a few hundred miles away in SE VA where I have some family. I did find a few manual cars, but most were automatics. I finally found a white sport in Virginia Beach on approximately my 20th dealer inventory search. More than likely I'll end up waiting and then pulling the trigger on a 2011 at this rate.
I'll be sad to see the 3rd pedal disappear from cars in the future, but that's another thread...

Personally, if my mind was made up now, I'd just go shopping for a 2010 and pull the trigger when I found my color at a decent price. That way I'd get to enjoy the car right now.
True. I'm also wondering how long the financing will last. It may be vaporized by the time my car comes in, or it may not be applicable to the 2011s. As this will be the first car I've financed (feels weird) I'd like pay as little interest as possible over the life of the loan.

LOL. No, just a Fit freak. Months of enjoying the car has me thinking you don't want to miss out unless the 2011 promises some sweet change worth waiting for.

If you're going to finance, is your credit score high enough to get a very low rate? It may be better to wait until you get around 750 and get a loan from a place besides the dealership first.
According to Truecar.com, Sport MTs are on a bit of an upward trend in price, and will most likely continue into summer. My bet is either buy it in Sep./Oct. or end of year.
Have you checked for any used MT Fits in your area? Best savings on cars come from buying 1-2 year old used cars with under 50K miles. If you plan to buy new anyways, the last two days of the year are usually the best days to buy a new car because dealers will try to boost sales numbers.

I'd read that page a while ago. I would be interested in having the option to buy VSA as an option that doesn't require navigation, but that's it. I like the power increase of the GE over the GD, the styling is already something I like, and it has most of the important options. If it were to come up to snuff with the Ford Fiesta's list of options (proximity locks, start button, heated seats, better bluetooth integration, etc.) then I'd definitely wait, but I don't think those are in the cards, and most can be addressed in the aftermarket if necessary.
I never actually thought I'd buy a new car. I've been content with used cars for years, especially not having to take the depreciation hit of a new one. The Fit, however, is a little different, in that it holds its value extremely well. There's not much motivation to buy a used car, and as this is not one I'll buy outright, the much lower rate for a new car is pretty important (we need the cash for home renovations).
Credit should not be a problem. FICO is around 800 or so right now, but I haven't seen any banks touch Honda's financing of 1.9% for 60 months.

I did some searching, and it looks like it's mandatory for 2011 with the exceptions of alterers:

That sounds promising. I guess I'll just have to hold my breath that financing will continue with 2011 models, though I'll probably turn blue!
