There is a big fight here to make the cameras illegal all over the state. Doubt it will succeed, but the policy manual exempting judges, local politicians and any cop owned car from getting tickets really teed a lot of people off. (The "Homelsss Health Insurance Tax" was just in Frisco when they hit me with it.)

The real culprit is the citizens. We can vote measures into law all by ourselves over here, so we've been demanding more services and no tax increases.

If you blame Arnold or *the democrats* you're just wasting our time playing out the same old partisan bullshit.

Wow that is f*%^ed up! In Illinois 84 in a 65 will get you a $75 ticket. 94 in a 65 will get you a $95 fine. Court supervision is offered once every year so 1 ticket a year won't even show on your record for insurance or suspension purposes. California is crazy.

You are right. Politicians and organized labor had nothing to do with forcing all the major corporations to leave the state due to regulation and taxes In case you didn't hear CA just shut the doors on its last auto manufacturing facility (nummi) today. Tickets and stiff fines are due to the failed policies of politicians trickling down to the individuals who are already "taking it in both ends."

By the way, if you get a ticket, learn your rights. Often you are being sited for "unsafe speed," so the question becomes whether or not the speed was safe or not, not if you were over the posted limit. Make sure to ask the officer what he considers the safe speed on that road to be.. if he says 30 and you were going 32, they can't reasonably argue what you were doing was unsafe. Always fight www.ticketassassin.com

If the politicians weren't responsible for the high corporate taxes, who was?

Nothing has changed, you guys are a bunch of drama queens. I've been here all my life and you are making traffic fines, which you don't get unless you break a traffic law, an essence to bash a state. This thread should be closed now cause this is just idiotic, if you want to bash the state and not discuss 2nd Gen stuff, off-topic is a little further down.

Yes, but they only punish the poor. I can afford a speeding ticket so I don't hesitate to speed, but for some people, especialy in states with outrageous fines, that could be the difference between buying groceries or not. As others have said, it's all about money not safety. The state can predict how many people will get tickets and depends on that money for funding.

Besides, my customers from California have more speeding tickets for 10mph or less over than any other state. Around here it is unheard of to get pulled over for less than 10 over. Must be alot of pressure on officers out there to issue citations.

If you have a population density like we do, then you would have a similar issue. I have yet to receive a ticket for anything under 15. Pressure? How have you heard of pressure our officers have, I have 2 cousin's in the sheriff's and an uncle in the sheriff's department, they just do their job. Seriously guys? This is just plain dumb. Fines are a deterrence, you don't want to get a ticket don't break the law. How much of a deterrence they are is up to the person receiving them. You can pay for them, so it's no big to you, if it's punishing the poor, maybe they'll learn not to speed.

Fair enough, I wouldn't dare blame it on the officers themselves, that would be silly. It's just that, as an outsider, I can't come to terms with how expensive everything is in CA. Your regristration fees, inspections, fines, insurance (thanks to a crazy department of insurance that passes laws that do nothing to benefit the customer), emissions standards, point system, etc. Are all crazy to me. It's just odd to see someone who wouldn't be upset. I guess I see the fines as part of a larger problem. I live in a city that has banned red light cameras, we can find other ways to make money.

It's understandable that people are incredulous when they look at our fines, however it serves as a deterrence and in fact our population density and sheer amount of people makes it hard to police. Your state has 1/3rd of the population of documented person's than our state, this doesn't include illegal immigrants so it would probably be higher. I don't like the registration fees, insurances, inspections (smog is waived for first several years on a new car). I don't mind the emissions standards when you have this many cars, it makes it easier to breathe, do you remember what China looked like during the 2008 Olympics, it could be like that. Point system, I agree it's idiotic, red light cameras, a lot of jurisdictions don't even have them anymore.
