It's true! Bulk delivery actually costs more than the bagged stuff from home-depot. Strange isn't it? I ended up getting bulk delivery anyway for pine-bark mulch as it was just too may trips, and the difference in cost and convenience was less than renting the home-depot truck and loading/unloading it.

Competition and economy of scale I guess. Or Home Depot is selling imported Chinese mulch.

cheap or not, cypress mulch isn't a very environmentally responsible or sustainable product.. locally made mulch from downed wood & pine bark mulch/nuggets is a much better option.

Hence the reason our second vehicle is the ridgeline we picked up some MooDoo and Mulch for our garden/flower bed for practically nothing. Much cheaper when we bought bags of mulch from Home Depot for my son's Play Area.

Find a friend with a pickup to save serious $$$$ we bought by the 1/2 yard.

Especially moodoo (black cow brand is very tasty). The bags tend to seep.

That load ain't nothin'. Here's my Fit (lighting makes it look more like a Crown Vic, doesn't it?), loaded up for recent interstate trip.

Seriously, we generally find the bags come out cheaper when you factor in that most bulk places charge delivery for smaller loads. And the bags are convenient because we can store them behind the house out of sight until they're used up.

And, back to talking about Fits, this car continues to deliver when it comes to hauling stuff. The latest was a trip East with the car stuffed with home renovation supplies and tools, and it still got 38 highway MPG!
I get $20 delivered for higher quality mulch. You're getting a coupon deal I'm sure of that (so you're having to wait for it); Home Depot is normally never that cheap per yard for mulch, plus their mulch isn't good quality anyway.

I cringe everyime I see someone with 60 mulch bags in their yard.

I buy a few bags of miracle grow to plant stuff, and use bulk gardening soil underneath it. I am sure I'm saving well over what you guys are paying. It's only $15-20 yard delivered from several landscaping shops. Most people at home depot are paying $2.50/CF. You do realize there are 27CF in a cubic yard, correct? (3x3x3).

Non discounted: 27x2.50 = $67.50 per yard + tax.
Your discounted stuff: 27x1.37 = $40 + tax.

I pay $20 delivered for better mulch. Soil is even higher priced at HD. So about 1/4th the price of nondiscounted, and 1/2 what you're paying. If you have a large landscaping yard this savings is immediate and lets you buy trees/shrubs with that extra money. I'm not trying to diss you just saying look for bulk, plus you can get 5 yards+ at a time.

When I first built a house, it took me a few years to realize HD is a ripoff for almost everything - it's like the kmart of home improvement. There are local specialized stores for anything you get there that has higher quality stuff at cheaper prices, but to each their own I guess.

Mulch Wars!

I think we'd better take this heated argument about mulch someplace else, or other forum participants will be throwing fits ("fits". Get it? Man am I clever!).

Anybody know if there's a MulchFREAK.net out there? Or maybe "Mulch Wars" on Discovery Channel? There must be a place where we can share our passions about mulch.

(No offense ellmaloc, I'm just having fun)

Nice! Hauled ~500lbs of clothes, house junk from Orange County to St. Louis this summer. Car did fine, was going at least 80 most of the time.
Just wish the fit had a slightly bigger thank. The Mini had a HUGE tank for a small car.
