if your doing this mod make sure you take all other parts off the box. if you want to order a replacement box honda will only give you the top half with out the couplers clamp breather grommet.

thanks k20a298ek
I just ordered the box. Figured if I can fabricate my own sri for ~$20 might as well try. If it doesn't work I'm out $20 big deal. I've been meaning to try this for a while...but never got a chance to do it. After seeing your pics..it pushed me to go ahead and order the replacement cover to fabricate.

its really easy. cut the bulk of the box around the maf with a hack saw, then do the fine work with side cutters. any problems just post em.
have fun your gonna like it.

as for rhe guy who refered it to a hack job. i suppose is.

a lot of my 4 runner guys(as i own one aswell) do this mod called a deckplate mod to our airbox. cost is ten bucks and the show improvements over a K&n intake system.

with the ability to go back to stock air box for offroading reason.

i started to do the deckplate mod then i realize that our box is oddly shaped, so instead i left the hole there and was going to do what this OP did. but never got around to it. feels the exact same to me with my fujita CAI.

there is enough flow for the heat to move around as wind from the grill comes through and i have the hood lift mod, so more heat is realeased.

this is a great idea. saves money and does the same effect.

I agree. I was studying the K&N filter earlier and I just can see spending $300 for the exact same design (minus the heat shield). So what if its a hack job....more money in my pocket for the same results.

K20a298ek, I will take some pics of mine when I get the new lid. I plan on using the stock coupler to see how it works. If not I will just use a extra coupler I have.

dude just order the top half. still be cheaper than any other intake. i probably could have done this mod for about 30 bucks canadian but i wanted a quality filter also a dry flow filter.

one other thing i'm 99.9 percent sure the r18 box maf is the same, so if you have wreckers in your area maybe take a look to see if they have any civics wrecked in the yard.

yeah, i tried looking for a coupler like that on ebay but couldn't find that kinda length. i was able to pick up a SRI for a lancer locally on craigslist for 10 bucks so i'll jus hack that one up. filter looks like @ss but it's new so it'll do for now until i buy a good filter. just waiting on cflhonda to send me my lid.
