2010 Sport, First Impressions
2010 Sport, First Impressions
Hi -
Just got a white 2010 Sport, up to about 300 miles, though I'd share my first impressions and comments.
Kudos to Sussman Honda outside Philly - great buying experience all around. Got the Fit for $17,100, they met my expectations for my trade-in, 1.9% APR. They threw in a set of floor mats, too! A good deal, I think.
The little car sure feels much bigger than it is, which I like. Haven't found any fit/finish issues, everything is solid, no rattles or racket yet.
What I really like? Handles great. The little side windows are a neat idea, and really help with visibility. Seat are comfy and easy to adjust. The car feels solid and stable. Great sound for a stock radio. Of course the magic seats - a great concept!
Good ergonomics, gauges and controls and certainly different, but as I get used to them, they seems very well designed.
One negative is that the auto tranny seems REALLY busy - lots of up-and-down shifting in urban/suburban driving. I'm gradually learning how to use the paddle shifters efficiently.
A big positive is that the car is relatively quiet on the highway - I've heard some yak that the Fit is pretty noisy at highway speeds, but doesn't seem to be an issue for me.
Only got 27 mpg on the first tank of gas, again mostly urban/suburban driving, hoping for better in the future.
Wish list - a mute on the radio. A passenger seat armrest. Interior color choices other than black (I like the grey on the base model better). Adjustable lumbar support.
No buyer's remorse, not at all. Very happy with my new Fit!
Regards -

I just recently got a 2010 Fit too. I second the radio mute. Although, I got the navigation model and I can just push the volume button in and mine mutes, kinda'. Not sure about the non-navi audio system... try pushing in that large center knob and see if that mutes. Or maybe turns it off?
It's kinda' strange... every car I've owned with steering wheel audio controls provided a mute along with the mode/volume/channel/etc. controls... but not the Fit.
Along those same lines, I wish there was a way to turn on the dome light using the standard headlight/fog light stalk, or a separate button/switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel... it's a real pain either reaching up for the map light or an even bigger pain reaching up and back for the dome light... especially while driving. Every car I've ever owned prior to my Fit had a more convenient way of turning on/off the dome light.
Neither of the above are that huge of a deal though.
Get the Honda center console/armrest... it's much better than another armrest for the passenger... and it adds more storage.
I've had black interiors for awhile now. Personally, I like it a lot. I would have preferred black leather... but I can add that later.
Oh man... I have heated seats and extreme adjustable lumbar support in my SUV. Those are things I miss more than I can even describe. Still, for what the Fit is, it wasn't a deal-breaker after driving my friend's, and then test driving one.
No, me either. It's a cool little car, for sure... fun even!!!
So far, so good!
BTW, I can't get much better than 30.8 mpg myself, thus far... and that's driving so frugally it bores me to death when doing so! I don't know how some forum members are getting 37 mpg+.
Maybe it's just the new engine issue. Some say fuel economy gets better with a little more engine age. We'll see.

Exactamundo! The power button functions as well as a mute button (or pause button), as it returns you to the exact spot you were on a CD, iPOD or thumb drive. It even fades is the volume automatically. Overall, I'm still impressed at how well thought out the car is, even after owning mine for a year.
Welcome aboard. First impressions are important. Since you got the Sport AT, you can control your own shifting, and have the fun of playing with the paddles. I usually flick the trans from S to D to S while at a stoplight, then let it take care of the first 2 shifts, as 1st gear is very short; once it gets to 3rd, it won't shift to higher gears automatically; to 4th and 5th gear shifts must be made manually in Sport mode. On the other hand, even in Sport mode, it will downshift automatically when engine speed requires doing so.
I really like sport mode but it can be a pain when you need to turn the wheel to steer. For instance, on those rare occasions when I'm leaving the station from a fill up [heh] and I have to make an immediate left, sport mode is not a good choice. Straight driving, it's the bomb! I guess that's what it's really meant for anyway.
One little thing for newbies with sport mode- if you're at a full stop and put it in S, you'll need to push the left paddle shifter once to engage S mode. For the first couple of times I didn't do that and I couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong. Then I opened the manual! Duh!
Gas mileage will improve as the car breaks in. And new or not, your first trip on the open road will surpise you. The gas mileage will make you a believer. Enjoy.

glad you like the car! i'm already at 17,000 miles in 6 months, and i still enjoy getting in it everyday for my long commute. im sure you'll still feel the same down the line. As for the gas mileage, you'll learn to ignore it...i remember for the first few months i couldn't STOP looking at the MPG meter, lol.
As the motor breaks in it'll get better, not to mention on the highway...omg. and for whatever reason you'll notice an increase after you're first oil change and the % is reset.

WOW! I'll have to read up on sport mode! Seems I don't know it very well! Thanks! I didn't realize it kicked in from third on. It seemed to go through all five automatically, like in drive, from memory anyway. From what I can remember though, you get that luxury only once when initially going to sport mode. Once you're paddle shifting, you gotta keep paddle shifting. Correct, or should I shut up about sport mode now?! LOL.
I gotta run some errands. Guess I try for myself.

Exactly -- as soon as you hit a paddle in Sport mode, all shifts are up to you. If you come to a stop in Sport mode, it's stuck in first until you use a paddle. However, if you bump it from Sport to Auto and back to Sport while stopped, it will upshift automatically from 1-2 and 2-3 when you start moving again. I wish this was the default behavior after coming to a full stop, but it's not.
Yup, tried this out today. What's weird is even going from 3 to 5, the 'M gear' never shows. You just get to noticing that you aren't getting out of 3rd! Strange. Nine times out of ten I hit the paddle right away when I go into S mode anyway- especially after reading the manual. I must have missed what you've pointed out here. After all, at only 8 months having my Fit, I guess I'm kind of a newbie too! I do like sport mode a whole bunch.

I bought my manual fit 3 weeks ago and have yet to think of any negatives about this little car. It is a lot peppier than I had expected for a 1.5 liter. Just the this weekend i found myself speeding 105mph without much effort. For the price it can't be beat. I have been averaging 30mpg with a heavy foot.
Great little car!

- No CD inserted then just press CD button to mute (who still uses CDs anyway).
- No USB device connected then just press AUX button to mute.
