About Time to change my oil & filter. I will be changing my oil and filter 2 times a year since I dont drive long distance, and live in a humid area.

Thanks for the ps as it will help some others, but im not changing my own oil. I like to buy the oil and filter, and pay a place 15-20 to do the work.
Should I supply them the drain plug washer?
I just feel better knowing the shop has parts that fit
I buy Bosch or OE. Mobil is worth it on a bigger engine as is the K&N. But a waste of funds on a 1.5L econobox engine. 5W20 Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge/Penzoil Platinum/Quaker State Q work well. Again, anything over $7 a qt for a Fit is gonna be overkill.
Thanks for the input.
Are you talking about oil or filters?
Im talking about filters, but any oil info is cool

AC Delco makes a good filter for a reasonable price. Ditto for Napa Silver (or Napa Pro Select or Napa Nascar Pro or whatever they're calling it this week) They're made by Wix, one of the best. Honorable mention to Purolator. Avoid anything Fram, including those under other brand names at places like Walmart.
Great replies guys. Thanks.
I checked out the amsoil site, and entered the fits info
2009 HONDA FIT 1.5L 4-cyl Engine Code L15A7
AMSOIL Product Recommendations - 2009%7cHONDA%7cFIT%7cM
these products look like I might buy them, and have them shipped
what do you think?
SAE 5W-20 XL Synthetic Motor Oil 1 gallon for 26.55
AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil and Engine Oil
MANN 7500 Mile Oil Filter (ML1008) 4.75
AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters - Nanofiber Technology
or
WIX 51356 Light Truck and Racing Oil Filters 8.50
AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters - Nanofiber Technology
fleetfilter charges half for the wix filter, but charges more for shipping then amsoil
any thoughts on the filters and oil I linked to?
Thanks

It may only be an econobox, but being a professional mechanic the only thing that will go on my car is a direct Honda Oil filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. I change my oil on my personal vehicles every 5000 miles. My non dd car has over 220,000 miles and I would get in it right now and drive from new jersey to California and not have any worries. It may be only an oil change but that is what keeps your car from wearing it self out and coming apart. For my customers vehicles I use either a factory filter from the manufacturer or a Napa equivalent.
So put what ever you want in your own car. But when it breaks I cant say I didn't tell you so.

I'd say OE or die, being a high-end factory tech - but the Honda filters have proven to sometimes be inferior to Mann, Wix, Mobil or K&N. Word has it that the US market OE filters are made by Allied Signal, which is the parent company of Fram.

We've installed hundreds of Fram, regular and extra guard with no comebacks. And good reports on oil analyses on our race cars.
Course, if I were you I'd get it at WallyWorld for a dollar less.
went to advance auto parts today. they had a mobile 1 special, buy 5 quarts and filter for 29.99 or mobile 1 ep and filer for 32.99. i got the 32.99
seemed like a good deal, as the mobile 1 ep oil was 7.99 a quart. its like getting each quart for 6.50 and the 12 buck filter for free. no shipping either.
would anyone recommend any other part for the oil change? oil drain plug?

As long as you buy a filter that's of rugged construction and has an effective element, nothing will break.
Even the cheapest Fram filters will get the job done most of the time, particularly if you're running full synthetic.
The problems start when you have a combination of a) an el cheapo filter with cardboard element end caps; b) cold winter start-ups (ie: below say, 15F or -10C) when the car either has no block heater installed or the block heater has not been plugged in and c) regular oil-- which, unlike synthetic, gets very viscous at such cold temps.
Cheapo filters may hold up just fine if you live in Florida or SoCal. But in say, northern Minnesota with the above "perfect storm" of filter-destroying factors in place that oil with the consistency of molasses fresh from the freezer can destroy those cardboard components. Once the oil warms up it transports bits of this cardboard throughout the lubrication system where they may become lodged in say, crankshaft oil passages. This will oil-starve crank and connecting rod bearings, causing them to spin and seize.
This of course doesn't happen very often, but once is enough. Why spend $5 on a cheap and questionable Fram filter when Napa sells a $5 filter that's as good as everyone elses' $10 filter?

Of note... I had the oil changed on the Fit with Mobil1 at the dealer for $38 (including tax). it sounds like with your purchase of mobil1, a filter, washer, & labor is looking to push $55 or more at a local Auto Shop. Next time, you could pick up the $7 filter and save yourself at least $10 or $15 by having the dealer do all of the work. Use an OEM filter and it's even more savings.

yeah its def possible i could get a better deal if i shopped around a bit more. my dealer sent me a thing in the mail with coupons for service. 28.75(reg 42.50) , says synthetic excluded. i would guess it would be at least 20 more for synthetic, if not more.
another coupon said:
tire balance and rotation 42.00 (reg 56)
another reads: we will match any competitors offer
now that sounds good
after my dealer i bought my car , quoted me 300 bucks to add remote entry, after i did it myself for 40, i dont trust those thieves
if i buy the oil myself i know i got what i wanted 5w20 mobile 1 ep, and a good filter
call me stubborn, but i will try and stay away from the dealer
i have a coupon from a close place called MR Tire, oil change plus
oil and filter change
brake inspection
check tire pressure
FREE 4 tire rotation

Which filter manufacturer in the states does Honda get their filters manufactured by? I ask this because not all OEM filters are created equal. For example, in Canada Mazda gets cheap filters made by Fram, paints them blue and then sells them at a 100% markup over aftermarket retail. Hopefully Honda goes to a more reputable filter manufacturer for theirs. I only buy the Napa filters, which are manufactured by Wix and meet or exceed industry standards.
There are actually two filters sold by Honda in the U.S. One is by Fram and the better one is by Filtec. The Filtec filter is difficult to find. I have a few of those in stock pile.
