Who designs those back seat
I am planning to put 2 white water kayaks stacked in long mode with wife sitting at the back. It would work perfectly if the damn back seat 1/3 split is on the driver side. With the current 1/3 split at the passenger side, it is too narrow to fit the two boats stacked on top of each other.
I hate roof rack and I thought my Fit is perfect (NOT).

I always thought that this missed the mark too! Then i realized that they didnt think they needed to redesign the interior behind the drivers and passengers front seats therefor keeping the cost (to honda) down. Well i think its a fail also cause i have needed to carry stuff just a few inches wider and couldn't - bummer!

I'm with the OP though wishing the car was more fully converted for LHD. The rear wiper also wipes the wrong side!
Maybe having 2+ versions of the back seat (in additional to the 2+ versions of the dash, front seats, front end, guage cluster, etc. etc.) would have been the straw that broke the camel's back?

i run into the same problem when trying to fit my longboard in my car. it wold be the biggest help if the back wind lifted up or if it slid down because then i could fit my 9'6" in there but nooo im stuck with only the 9'0" longboard.

this is not a cost cutting issue, it is by design. For start it is a narrow car. People will stick anything that would fit from the back and make them fit as possible. Let's take in for example when you're shopping furnitures from IKEA which comes un-assembled. If the seat split would favor the passenger side, you will run the risk of shoving long cargos unto the shifter. Who could be stupid to even do that you ask??? Answer is, anyone can have epic fail moments. Happens a lot than you ever think. Honda have thought of this and made sure to orient the split seat to prevent that, not idiot proof but the design purpose is there.

True that.

I am happy with seats and dash. What is wrong with them? At least the gauge cluster is in front of us and not in middle. Having to do two versions would increase costs somehow.

And I wasn't saying that there was, I was just noting other things that Honda has done to create the LHD version, that's all. I just thought that maybe while they were at it they could have finished it off (oh and kept the red gagues, at least for those of us using km/h).

Conclusion: Go kayaking by myself.

The world disagrees...
Besides, the majority of human beings are right-handed. Better to give most of the controls to the dominant hand, not to mention giving the widest view of the road to the dominant eye.
(Only driven RHD a few times while I was over in England. Going clockwise through a roundabout just feels so wrong! I think it's how the cat feels when I pet her backwards )
