Axel help

Ok, i read the DIY, but the part about the axles is AFTER the whole thing, so my damn axle popped out. I have been on here reading and out there for about 4 hours now trying to get it back in. is there anyone in the clearwater/palm harbor area of fl that can come help, or any tricks that i haven't done yet that anyone knows of? i ended up taking the shock out again to try to get the axle back in, i've twisted the hub until the axle lines up inside the tranny, it'll spin the wheel on the opposite side, then tried to slam it in the rest of the way, but to no avail.

been there done that. It's a learning experience for sure. I ended up cutting the cv boot clamp off and pulled back the cv boot. Made it much easier to work with. There are three bearings that have to line up perfectly, and then kind of indent in to the grooves. It's the best way I can describe it. Good luck.

Yeah we had one fall out also--but some how got it back in without having to take off the boot.

Good luck, hope someone in your area can help.
Next time I do a suspension change, I'm going to get some bungee cords and wrap them around something and the studs to hold it up and in.

Awesome man, make sure you re-grease it with high temp grease and then get a proper clamp.

So glad to hear that man...

Yeah, you can use a reg clamp temporarily--but get you a real one before dirt gets in there.

^I was just suggesting that so that everything stays in balance. A hose clamp would keep dirt out just fine, but won't keep it balanced.

Ahh...gotcha.

Yeah, I didn't know...I was lucky that we didn't have to take the clamp off...but we were close to it when it randomly popped back in.

I know there are about 4 or 5 threads on here about axle's popping out and no one bashed me and told me to search in a time of need (which i had already done anyhow). thanks a ton for the help and advice.

$9 for just a band? The whole boot kit (aftermarket) that includes the boot, bands and grease sells for around $16.

ya, i was told $8.50 for the band when i called the local parts department, but i hate the local dealership (palm harbor honda) they're jerks. my dealership back in orlando (courtesy honda) is awesome, they usually have better prices too.

For an extra dollar you could buy a CV band tool and a whole slew of bands on ebay.

Have you used one before? I'm just a little leary about it, but I can't imagine it being too difficult.

Ha, thanks for the rep. If I knew what I knew now, it'd only take about 2 hours. The other three wheels flew.

I have, its really not bad at all. I bought my tool off ebay via summitracing. I did all 4 boots on my ex's car, of course I used to watch everytime a tech at my old dealership would do one.

that is exactly what happened to me when I went to a bodyshop to install my coilovers today. The axel popped out even tho I told him to be careful, its unfortunately, it happens, i understand. He did the same thing, took the whole axel out, cut the clamps, lined up the three bearings. There was a whole bunch of green lubricant in there. He clamped it back together. I hope he clamped it tight.

Will there be any troubles in the future having been through all of this??
