car over heating/fan came off/blue liquid?????

Hey peeps. Just looking for some ideas on wtf this is. I was driving today with my AC on and I start to smell a sweet smell. I turn the AC off thinking nothing of it and put the windows down. I'm driving next to a guard rail and I hear a ticking sound when I step on the gas. I look at my gauges thinking somethings up and my check engine light is on, along with my over heating light. I pull off and turn the car off, and check under the hood. There was a blue liquid all over the engine bay. Felt very oily. To go along with that, the fan on the left side of my rad, is completely off. I can grab it andmove it up, down and side to side. The car is at the honda dealership waiting to see what the issue is, but I'm looking to see what you guys here think. Its an 09 sport with 60000KMS on it as iit is canadian. Lowered. I haven't hit anything so I don't see that to be the issue. I'm on my blackberry so ill try to answer what I can promptly if you have any questions. Thanks.

Did you check coolant level. Blew a hose or water pump I'll bet.

I didn't check it when I was there, everything was still hot. So any idea what the blue liquid is? Water punp would cause it to not turn over now? Cuz the car won't start now at all. It won't turn over.

sounds like something happened with your radiator? the blue liquid is the radiator fluid and smells sweet when it's burning, it's kind syrup-like in consistency and honda's long life radiator fluid is blue (certain other makes have different colors nowadays). or just that you're leaking radiator fluid? that'd explain why the car overheated.

i don't know why the fan would be detached though? please let us know when you find out what happened.

If I had to guess, your water pump is going/went bad. Same thing happened to my old truck. Shouldn't go bad on that new of a car, though.

Hope you haven't 'cooked your goose' as in seized the engine !!!

We all wait and pray you didn't.

Shhh. Don't say I cooked the motor. When I pulled over, it sounded fine. Idled fine, and from the time I noticed the light, to me stopping wasn't even a minute. So, would this be a warranty issue? Or what?

Probably depends upon what Joe Honda finds when he looks at it. If there is a major engine or accessory failure that caused the problem, my guess is that Honda would want you to be happy. Otherwise…well, we've all been there.

Let's hope your right. I've done nothing to the car besides lower it, so I can't see how it wouldn't be covered. However, they will probably find a way.

The fan not being bolted in place has me miffed. That really makes no sense. Unless it was loose from the factory and while driving the bolts holding it in place finally worked their way free. Were you able to hear the fan turning on at least? The thermostat should of been sending a signal to the ECU that the engine was hot and kicked the fan on still. Even with it not being connected the right way, it should of been on at all times since it wasn't connected and the engine was running HOT. It just overheated. Really only need to worry about if it warped the head gasket, but since you didn't drive it after the CEL showed up, you are most likely good to go.

Hopefully the dealer finds the fault quickly and you are on your way with ZERO expense.

Sounds pretty bad to me. I hope you can get it fix at the minimal cost. Have you been servicing your car regularly?

The car has 6000km, not much service needs to be done in that time.

Woah nevermind, I thought it said 6000, it says 60000. So good question.

The car has been dealer maintained since day one. I took it to another shop for getting it lowered, and they only touched the suspension. Ill keep everyone posted to what they tell me tomorrow. I'm kinda stressed.
