1 year & 38MPG
So, the fit just rounded it's 1 year mark and I am very happy to say that the last fill-up on the Fit Put me in at an even 38mpg over the lifetime of the vehicle. I picked up the car on 8/8/09 and with 171 miles on the Odometer. On 8/15/10, I filled up with 16,174 miles which is almost 16K miles/year.
For those that haven't read. The fit is my commuter car but it's also my fun toss-around car. It's bone stock with the exception of a child's seat in the back and a V1 Radar Detector. I commute 52 miles round trip to work. It's all 50mph country roads with some 25MPH towns and a few stop signs/lights. Weekends the fit gets taken into the "city" (I use the word "city" sparingly. 16 stoplights end to end and we have to go to the other end to do food shopping. During the week, I take the most fun roads I can find; Twists with small mountain roads. Even with downshifting a fair amount coming through corners, I've still managed to come out at 38mpg. Fuel: Fill-ups are about once/week with Shell 87 or Citgo 87 (whichever of the two is cheaper). Maintenance: So Far, one oil change at 9K miles - $38 for Mobil1 synthetic Oil at the dealer. Currently I'm at 50% with 16K on the ODO. Here's the stats fort he last year. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...4004_large.jpg Date | Odo |Trip | Gas | MPG | Lifetime MPG 08/08/2009 | 171 | --- | 0 | | 08/16/2009 | 577 | 406 | 9.69 | 41.89 | 41.89886481 08/23/2009 | 923 | 346 | 9.31 | 37.18 | 39.57894737 08/30/2009 | 1229 | 306 | 7.95 | 38.50 | 39.25788497 09/06/2009 | 1648 | 419 |10.16 | 41.23 | 39.80059283 09/13/2009 | 1965 | 317 | 7.88 | 40.24 | 39.8755279 09/20/2009 | 2252 | 287 | 7.48 | 38.35 | 39.66075853 10/01/2009 | 2641 | 389 | 9.91 | 39.26 | 39.59602437 10/09/2009 | 3020 | 379 | 9.96 | 38.04 | 39.38346696 10/16/2009 | 3385 | 365 | 9.93 | 36.78 | 39.06648839 10/25/2009 | 3712 | 327 | 9.44 | 34.64 | 38.61083851 11/01/2009 | 4041 | 329 | 8.59 | 38.31 | 38.58424726 11/08/2009 | 4263 | 222 | 6.58 | 33.74 | 38.28592814 11/17/2009 | 4609 | 346 | 9.68 | 35.73 | 38.07481126 11/29/2009 | 4859 | 250 | 6.97 | 35.88 | 37.95029547 12/06/2009 | 5175 | 316 | 8.59 | 36.78 | 37.8746594 12/13/2009 | 5438 | 263 | 7.86 | 33.48 | 37.62680383 12/20/2009 | 5739 | 301 | 8.91 | 33.78 | 37.39673585 12/27/2009 | 5948 | 209 | 6.54 | 31.95 | 37.16785691 01/09/2010 | 6240 | 292 | 7.97 | 36.62 | 37.14198286 01/17/2010 | 6546 | 306 | 8.48 | 36.10 | 37.08983011 01/24/2010 | 6813 | 267 | 7.28 | 36.70 | 37.07300737 01/28/2010 | 7156 | 343 | 8.45 | 40.57 | 37.23149086 01/31/2010 | 7372 | 216 | 6.27 | 34.43 | 37.14153084 02/07/2010 | 7684 | 312 | 9.23 | 33.81 | 36.98980848 02/14/2010 | 7972 | 288 | 7.78 | 37.04 | 36.99084831 02/21/2010 | 8190 | 218 | 5.99 | 36.38 | 36.9743637 02/28/2010 | 8404 | 214 | 5.54 | 38.65 | 37.01555616 03/07/2010 | 8695 | 291 | 7.57 | 38.46 | 37.06248098 03/13/2010 | 8951 | 256 | 6.53 | 39.23 | 37.12159648 03/20/2010 | 9222 | 271 | 6.82 | 39.71 | 37.19487137 03/21/2010 | 9566 | 344 | 9.58 | 35.89 | 37.14613316 03/23/2010 | 9689 | 123 | 2.82 | 43.63 | 37.21748651 03/25/2010 | 10070 | 381 | 9.64 | 39.50 | 37.30122843 04/04/2010 | 10435 | 365 | 9.54 | 38.28 | 37.33449731 04/11/2010 | 10787 | 352 | 9.43 | 37.31 | 37.33427114 04/18/2010 | 11082 | 295 | 7.65 | 38.55 | 37.36643836 04/24/2010 | 11161 | 079 | 1.71 | --- | 37.41786116 04/25/2010 | 11494 | 333 | 9.43 | 36.96 | 37.35237844 05/02/2010 | 11811 | 317 | 8.19 | 38.71 | 37.3879806 05/09/2010 | 12128 | 317 | 8.13 | 39.00 | 37.42878608 05/16/2010 | 12497 | 369 | 9.37 | 39.39 | 37.48441444 05/22/2010 | 12815 | 318 | 8.18 | 38.88 | 37.51817453 05/30/2010 | 13192 | 377 | 9.71 | 38.85 | 37.55479926 06/06/2010 | 13439 | 247 | 6.39 | 38.63 | 37.57469344 06/22/2010 | 13843 | 404 |10.02 | 40.31 | 37.65042822 06/27/2010 | 14024 | 181 | 4.53 | 39.94 | 37.67883371 07/04/2010 | 14332 | 308 | 7.83 | 39.32 | 37.71338784 07/11/2010 | 14721 | 389 | 9.44 | 41.20 | 37.79908035 07/18/2010 | 15019 | 298 | 7.39 | 40.34 | 37.84665579 07/28/2010 | 15236 | 217 | 5.69 | 38.16 | 37.85080777 08/01/2010 | 15508 | 272 | 6.63 | 41.02 | 37.9028272 08/09/2010 | 15886 | 378 | 9.27 | 40.76 | 37.96719094 08/15/2010 | 16174 | 288 | 7.27 | 39.63 | 37.99563132 The Previous ride was a Nissan Altima 3.5SE and by the time I had owned it for a year, I was pretty much numb to driving. As I've said before, In the Altima, I rode to work, with the Fit, Even after a year, I DRIVE to work. I'm still loving the car, even after a year, and it's definitely a keeper. My wife and I even talk about how it'll be my son's first car. He's turning 4 in a few weeks. EDIT: Addition to the above. Here's my Fuel Economy Calculator. It was built in Excel 2007 but for those who don't have 2007 (or 2003 with the free MS converter for 2007), you can Download OpenOffice.org or get the PortableApps version of OpenOffice.org and stick it on a flash drive. I tested it with Portable Apps OOo version 3.2 with no issues. Feel free to download & use. ~SB |
nice, im guessing the onboard mpg calculator was off the whole time XD
|
i picked up the car from delivery at 15 or so miles
i filled it up at 158 miles, due to convenience (was at a costco) onboard mpg read 26mpg i topped it off with 4 gallons for 40mpg :) |

specboy Good yearly summary, well done. I'm driving a similar profile minus the 52mile daily commute and seeing similar numbers. In fact I'm running close to 40MPG now. For some reason I've seen a slight increase the past two weeks. Almost as if the engine is still improving the MPG curve.
I like this car. |
the difference in gas mileage between urban, suburban and highway driving is pretty extreme in the fit.
if i drove exclusively in my suburban town, i'd get about 26mpg. overall my driving is mixed and i've averaged just under 32 mpg for the life of the car (22,300 miles) |
nice,
So far I've filled up my tank 2 times, 1st was 375mi on 9.0gals = 41.6mpg 2nd was 400mi on 9.7gals = 41.2mpg |
That's a great beginning!
|
thnx! I find that the Avg MPG computer is optimistic by between +1-1.5mpg. I drive like a granny and rarely use my A/C so that might be helping my numbers also.

Living in a state where the highest point is a freeway over-pass helps ;-)
I'm starting to measure MPG over 3 fill-ups, and not reset the digital. So much has to do with where you are. 3 tanks will give me a better avg I'm thinking. No numbers yet... |

I was thinking about doing that also 'not reseting my digital' but I like to reset my trip odo to keep an idea of how much range I have left. |
Your fuel gauge does it. Fuel light on - 1.5gal more or less. 40 miles easy.

I seem to get 36.5 all the time with the air on

KC, how are you keeping track? fortunately for me, the program I used on my phone keeps accurate data by adding all of the gallons then dividing the total mileage by the total number of gallons up to that point. I did a quick test and averaged all of the tank MPG's together and ended up 1.5mpg high which is a mistake allot of people actually make. Averaging out the AVG Tank MPG won't give you an accurate number for lifetime fuel economy.
~SB I then know how many miles I drove and the total gallons used. Divide it out and I know the MPG over three fill ups. What this tends to eliminate is he fill up variable at each refueling. A bit more accurate than measuring MPG at each fill up, even though I tend to use the same station when local. |

I fill the tank and mark down the mileage. Next fill up I mark down the # of gallons. I then record the gallons on each of the next two fill ups. On the third I also mark the mileage.

Just mark down the ODO (not the trip) and the gallons used. Then add the gallons to your previous total and do the math using your ODO reading. You'll be even more accurate than the 3 tank fill-up method you described above. ~SB |

How could I of... love DB.

wow driving in hawaii sucks because people cant drive here and there's a 2 second reaction delay. I'm getting 25.5 miles with babying the car with the AC on, and I rarely get on the highway.

popoki Welcome to the forum. What's your ride? MT AT Sport Base? Set up a sig under User CP. You will see the MPG slowly improve the first 1K miles - patience, it will get better. After about 600 miles you can stop 'babying' it and begin to enjoy things and proud MPG's will be a part of the fun. That digital MPG thing can really help you, get to know it.
