Fit wins comparison Test, C&D

October issue of Car and Driver has a comparison test between the Fit, Mazda 2, and Ford Fiesta.

Fit 1st place
M 2 2nd place
Fiesta 3rd place

Oddly enough, even though the Fit's EPA mileage was rated the lowest, it got the highest mileage during the comparison test.

Wow, kinda shocked that the Fiesta would come in third with all the hype surrounding it.

Any more tidbits to tide us over until the article's available online?

trim levels tested
performance numbers
high/low/verdict overview

Thanks for sharing Olyar! I don't think we'll find the article online anytime soon. Someone would need to scan a couple pages into the computer and share the images here.

Which reminds me of the time we scanned in a Popular Mechanics article comparing the Fit to a Ducati motorcycle. One of the first comments quipped: "What's next, Honda Fit vs. a rhino?" So, naturally I photoshopped (ok, MSPainted) in a modified article...

Oh, sweet! Thanks JPD. Is there a way you can zoom in a bit? I think if you hold down CTRL and hit + it will zoom. Then maybe save using a higher resolution than the default to help improve readability. + reps to you.

Actually you could just probably use the link in his image to read the shootout article for yourself.

Start on page 88, end on page 95.

Wait a second - after all that talk about the Fiesta being quiet inside, the noisy Fit is the same at cruising speed? Car and Driver even put it in one of their headlines:2011 Ford Fiesta - Comfy Seats and a Quiet Cabin - Car and Driver. Maybe at highway speeds things are different?

Did you notice that the Fit's interior shot is of a 2009 model, since it has navi and manual transmission?

The article mentioned it was an "early" model option before they stopped putting navi with MT.

pg 90, middle of middle paragraph, middle column (i have the issue too, 3 yrs for $7!!!)

PS. I had a dealer offer to get me an MT with navi in June 2010.

How come the mazda 2 is a full second faster than the fiesta? I know it's lighter, but 20hp should be more than anough to counter weight the extra 100kg or so.
Old camry with 10 more horses and 300 more kg make about the same 0-60.
Also (in Canada at least), the Mazda 2 is the cheapest car of the gang, and comes well equipped in the base (gx) grade (tcs/vsc, power door locks, things that the 500$ more expensive fit dx doesn't have).
However, it's the smallest and the interior feels cheap.

I've got to admit I'm surprised by this. I was surprised that the Fiesta didn't fare better than this. I expected good things from the Mazda2, but based on Europe's experience with the Fiesta I'd expected better. The fuel economy was especially surprising to me, I expected the Fiesta to have the decided edge there based on EPA estimates. Can't wait to see the Fiat's come to town...
