Need a whole new wheel, had the whole wheel punctured (need it soon!!)

Hey guys, was traveling home to see my parents and ran over something on the highway which went thru the whole wheel and tired.. and i went to tired shops and theycan't find a tired... so i went to the dealership and now they they found out that my whole wheel has a whole thru it.

I need to drive the car again soon and was wondering what i should do, is there a place i can just order 1 wheel? or where do people order those steel wheels from? I need one soon so i can go back up to school again and also to work.

i live in Winston-Salem NC if someone has a spare or something i can use, right now iam using the spare, but now sure how that will handle traveling long distances everyday.

EDIT: ok honda wants like 500bux for new wheel and tire, need some help... what should i do? 500 sounds like alot.. like as if i can order 4 brand new wheels.. but the problem is i would also need 4 brand new tires if i went that route.. i think it would be best if i could just find something cheap to just throw on there..

What the heck puncture the wheel??? You must have felt that hit... hard. Dealer couldn't help you? Never heard of a wheel getting punctured - it's a gotta see, for sure.

sure let me take a picture really quick, nah i didn't feel a thing.. it just sounded really loud when i ran over somethingon the highway, but like 5 other cars were pulled over... but no accident.. iam thinking there was a huge piece of metal on the highway or maybe the highway has something sticking out of it, causing people to run over it and getting flat tires..

its weird because i punctured tires before and the car went almost out of control... (low profile tires) but for some reason when this one punctured i couldn't tell if something happened.... i drove a gas station to check on it, because some kind of warning light came on the dash board

Tire pressure sensor let you know. Which wheel was it? If 5 others were involved you might have a case, sure it wasn't a spike strip to catch the bad guys LOL

Hey Vash, might want to call around your local salvage/junk yard for the rim size. They might have a used tire too, just to get you by for now. Good luck! BTW I think your keyboard S and D's are sticking... :-) "tired..."

Yeah, that should be easy enough to weld up from the inside, should be fine.

Wow - I'm not sure welding on an alloy wheel, but let them look and see if they'll warranty it. It's gonna put a load on trying to balance that sucker - I'm thinking you would be better off replacing it. Not sure on the dealer pricing but you are only buying one - you really don't want to odd-ball one wheel out on your ride.

So if you're considering new wheels now is the time to bite the bullet. Limp around on mini-tire till you get that together.

iam worried about the balancing as well... generally i would have jumped on this in a heart beat to change up all 4 wheels and tires... but iam sorta out of the car scene now because i no longer give a damn about having a riced up car... and if i got a brand new set of rims and tires, it wouldn't look good unless the car was lowered.. and if the car was lowered it wouldn't be such a good "everyday" car anymore.

i mean the dealer wants like 500bux for wheel and tire... can't i get a set of 4 brand new rims for that price? the problem would be getting tires tho.

That sux big time Vash. And yes, you can get a new set of wheels for that price. Have you checked Bernardi Parts or College Hill Honda for a Sport wheel? They usually have some good deals on OEM parts.

Tires should be easy to find if you change to 205/50R16s, though finding an offset (if you get an aftermarket wheel) that won't rub may be an issue if you do decide to lower in the future.

Punctures in wheels like that do happen, I've seen some way worse, full punctures with massive holes.

And for reference, you can surely get a new set of wheels for $500, just not brand new OEM Honda Fit Sport wheels, they list at $447 a piece. 2700-TK6-A91 003 004 DISK, ALUMINUM WHEEL (16X6J) (TPMS) (KOSEI) 447.68 317.85

Honda Automotive Parts

So the $500 for a new factory wheel and tire is a decent price (the tires are around $80 each).

You can definitely weld an aluminum wheel, its done all the time. The balance will not be affected as the balance is corrected with wheel weights after the tire is mounted, and most specialized wheel repair places will get it really close.

Yeah even if the weld holds, balancing would be an issue. But aluminum beads are nothing new. If the shop is good and know what they're dong then the weld might not be an issue.

If not this forum, check other forums like Edmunds Townhall for guys trying to get rid of their OEM wheels. People upgrade all the time and sell their OEM's. Good luck!

thanks guys, i'll take it to a auto repairshop first thing tomorrow, i gave them a call today but they were all closed, but they said i could just drop the wheel off on monday and it takes about 1 day for them to weld it.

so after that i'll take it down to honda and buy the tire for like 111+tax.. man this is such a headache... but i guess i can't prevent stuff like this from happening...

i seriously would buy new wheels.. but the problem is.. iam not sure if theres any kind of wheels that would look good with me keeping the car at stock height.. unless you guys can recommend me something by monday.

hey, you can try the tire rack, they sell steelies for 49.00 apeice, don't look good but if you get a 15in tire that matches the diameter you can use it and ride on it till you can find out what to do.

Just my 2 cents, I'd go ahead and try get another wheel. Looking at it from a safety perspective, having the wheel repaired even with the proper materials and techniques may not result in it being as strong as it originally was.
