Debating on getting a fit, all opinions welcome!
So basically my dad said I can get a car but it has to be auto, he said a civic or a fit, I wouldn't get a civic unless its a si, so I've been looking at the fit and decided on getting it in dec or jan, gotta get a auto so my mom can use it at certain times. Today I went to the honda dealer with my cousins and they all said the fit sucks and its a chick car, they keep telling me about getting a crz or a civic si, can't get the crz because it has 2 seats, can't get the si because its a manual(even though I know how to drive a manual). My question to all of u here is that if I should just encourage my dad to get me a si and drive my mom to places and my cousins would like it? Or get the fit in auto, let my mom drive it @ certain times and my cousins are going to dislike it and I shouldn't care?
Get the Fit auto. Excellent car with good carrying capacity. The auto comes with steering wheel shift buttons which you will love if you like to drive while your parents (don't kid yourself, dad wants his turns, too) will get along fit with straigt auto.
your cousin's aren't driving it, so go tell them either pay for the SI or STFU. Your mom will like the space and rear seats for cargo...but it sounds as though you kind of got your heart set on an SI. Which I assume is out of the question for your dad. As for your cousins, you have to ask yourself do they know cars better than every car magazine, and internet reviewer that said the Fit is tops in its class? Probably not. At the end of the day your dad is cutting the check so its the fit vs the civic, and of course you will hear all of us say the Fit is better. But hey if you want to have no personality and drive a cookie cutter econo car like a civic, don't let us stop you.
Hey fitfreaks I got some great news!, sat down and had a conversation with dad, car will be 100% mine and I can get a manual, I repeat I CAN GET A MANUAL, so now what? civic si or fit sport mt? I was really thinking about the fit ina more practical way because gas is cheaper, better mpg, and cheaper to mod
I'm 41, with beutiful wife, two little kids, riding road and mountain bike, do not shave every day and go weightlifting every other day - I have red fit with roof rack and steel wheels and do not care what people in Ford F150 with the dog in the trunk think about me...

I started shopping for the 2nd gen Insight because I wanted a fuel efficient car (compared to the Nissan Pathfinder I was borrowing).
But I got the Fit because I wanted a hatchback (drove one for close to a year when I was learning to drive). I hadn't realized the "Fit" was available in NA (saw it on Top Gear, Jazz). Took me a while (and some dealer delay) to convince me to get the manual (same learning hatchback).
That was nearly a year after I started with the Insight. Most of the delay was a financial issue, but I still took my time in deciding what I wanted.
And that is, a small, practical fuel efficient hatchback. While plenty of people here and there dislike the look of the car, I actually like it quite a bit... so it appeals to me.
So, what appeals to you?
things to consider about getting a GE Honda Fit. (and modding)
i've been a 2010 SSM Sport owner for about 6 mos now. the model is still relatively new (2009, 2010, and by the time u step into your ride.. the 2011).
with that being said.. aftermarket parts are still hard to come by, (as the JDM and USDM models are VERY different (there's some forum topic on the comparison between the two models) but anyways. any body customizations up 'front' are JDM/USDM specific. the US is slooowly trickling down aftermarket body mods here. but the main ones seem to be MUGEN and our very own JDP. look into those, but a lot of GE FitFreaks here seem to find ways to mod the car exterior wise and still get heads to turn.
yea. i know i dont speak for everyone here, but the civic to me always seemed like an economic staple / dime-a-dozen car. stats say the civic is perhaps the most stolen car in north america. but it happens coz it's prob the MOST COMMON car in america. i think the FIT is smth that borders on the slightly unusual. it's a Honda, fun to drive, not your typical racer, but the car seems to appeal to all age ranges. "the Honda Fit.. Fits everybody."

You need to decidewhat you ANT to do with your car, then debate which one works best.
1. MPG count a lot cause budget saya so?
2. fun to drive count most?
3. carries 4 people easily, aka 4 doors?
4. performance count a lot?
5. low maintenance cost very importanat?
6. admiration of your car very important?
7. lots of agtermarket dress up and performance stuff available?
you can add others, and then once you pick the top 3 for posters, then you can get good advice.
good luck.
ps you can't go wrong with a Fit.
Si might be a bit faster, but I think the Fit might be the only car that balances fuel efficiency, utility, reliability, price, and being fun to drive as well as it does. Try to find something that competes at the Fit's level, it won't be easy.
i like the fit and want to get it for my first manual car (i drove friends and family's manuals), and its very cheap for gas, mantainence and mods, as for the si, love the k20, but who needs power @ 17? im prob going to show off, like some1 said and crash it, which i dont want to do, and civic si's in my area get stolen like crazy, so i think i should get a 11' fit sport taffeta white in manual or automatic?
The Fit Sport MT would be a perfect first car to learn how to drive a standard transmission. Mine was a 63 Corvair, but I actually learned shifting on my Dad's 58 Ford, twas 1961. 3-speed on the column.
