2009 Sport with issues

I have a Fit Sport and Love this car! But recently i have noticed that it is taking longer and longer to start when its cold. After i get it warmed and shut it off after a few min ill try again and its fine.

I have also noticed that while im driving down the interstate when i let off the gas the RPM's go up

Any help would be great. Thank you

My first guess would be the battery. Might be starting to lose it's charge.
As for the rpm's going up while driving..??? no clue.

Good luck

It does sound like the battery. Some of these OEM batteries are good for years, others are shot in months. You do not say how long you have owned the car, but age is a factor with batteries.
Is the engine turning fast or slowly when you are trying to crank it?

Have you had your oil changed lately? If so, what weight oil was put in?

The reason I ask is that I see you are from Ohio and I know it is getting colder up there now. If the car is parked outside and you have some, say 20-50 oil in there the
engine will be harder to turn than it was in the summer.

Couple that with an aging battery and it could be your problem.

If the engine is turning freely (fast) when cold, there is something else involved here.

If he's running 20/50 oil in a Fit during the winter, he's going to have other issues down the road than just tough cold starts

Whoops. Didn't even realize there WAS a Columbus Indiana... automatically thought
Ohio when I saw that. Sorry.
Yep, wrong weight oil will cause some problems in a small engine, sure enough.

Yes it is Columbus, Indiana. I have had the car since Oct. 2009. I bought it new and its been great till now.

I turn over a little slower then normal the first time i try to start, then faster the second when it does start.

Just changed the oil at Honda mabe 3 weeks ago. so id assume its the recomended 5w20.

How long is long? A moment or two? If so not to worry. It may be a battery but maybe you are trying to find a problem that does not exist.

The RPM thing is weird. Under warranty so let Honda solve that one.

Wow a lot of miles. That does seem to be slow. If it is cranking though doubt it is battery. Maybe time for a service.

Next time try turning the key to the ON position and leave it there for a few seconds so that the fuel pump has time to prime. I suspect the cold is just making the pump take a little longer to prime is all. Dunno about the reving thing. Assuming your car's an automatic, sounds like the transmission is simply downshifting.

Alternatively, it could be the torque converter lock-up disengaging as well, assuming its only ~500 rmps.

New development, While driving down the highway when i try to speed up from 60 to 70 and i step on the gas it will go as high as 6-7000rpm. It slowly comes back down, but it used to stay around 3000 so i may have to make a trip to Honda...... This is driving me nuts, and i dont care for my local Ford/Honda dealer.

Are you sure that it's just not downshifting?

Um isn't that normal? Are you sure you are not driving in sport mode (S without the paddle shifters activated) sounds like what people are saying above that it is just downshifting. If you are in sport mode it will shift at 6800K rpm as well the rpm will rise if you slow down because it is downshifting to keep the rpm's at a better performance orientated level. The engine acts a lot different in D vs S. In my opinion better

WTF? They have Ford & Honda dealers together? So many things wrong with that I don't know where to start .

Here where I live, there are Ford and Chevy dealers together.

...And Subaru and Acura dealers.

I may have moved it there. Now everything seems okay at the moment... for now anyway. I tried in D and mashed the pedel to the floor and it went to almost 5500 rpm. so its possible i had it in S.....

I hate the Honda/Ford Dealership.... Try to ask a Ford service guy for an appointment to change the oil and get i dont deal with Honda wait till JoeBob comes back. its a PITA!
