Question would 195\55\16 tires work well on our cars??

i own a 2010 Fit sport AT and was looking at what tires are availible, only see 3 diffrent tires on tirerack and would like to now if stepping up to a 195\55\16 from a 185\55\16 be due able?.. would it hurt\ help performance and ride? MPG\drag ?

thanks let me know what you think.. I know others have looked at 205\50\16 but i dont want to hurt the MPG.

Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing suggests a 205/50R16 is your best option with only +0.06" diameter difference from stock.

if you are lowered, 195/55R16's will rub your front inner fenders. i'm having this issue now with them. i'm lowered on T1R's, and 195/55's rub on everything. smallest bump, and when you back up too. my suggestion would be 195/50's, IF your lowered. if not, 195/55's might be fine. again, strictly speaking from a lowered point of view

The stock tires are 185/55/16, so (195/55/16) would be the next size up, both slightly wider and taller than the stock, but not as wide as the 205s. It will increase your ground clearance slightly and make your speedometer and odometer underreport just a tad. Rubbing should not be an issue on an unmodified car. The car should look and ride better IMO.

Some Prius owners replace their stock (Bridgestone) Turanza 195/55/16 tires with Falken Ziex ZE-912 195/55/16 tires when the originals wear out- they are reasonably priced and highly regarded. Look into the Falkens and let me know what you think. I'm not ready for new tires yet.

thanks for all your input, i think the 195 would help with the ride for the city traffic i do( baltimore City roads suck) , with out hurting the MPG to much. just got my car so i dont plan on getting tires soon. hope they have some more options when i do need to get some. thanks all.

If you don't want to hurt mpg the 195/55x16 tires are an inch bigger diameter and will hurt mpg As will the 205/50x16's; the former due to the tread weight further from the axle and the 205's because of weight. Both will hurt acceleration.
Your concern is shared by many Fitters looking to improve mpg; the best would be 175/60x16 tires for slightly bigger diameter (so reduces the 'rear axle ratio') but is a couple of pounds lighter and less rolling resistance. I could only find Bridgestones at TireRack for $102 + shipping.

205/50/16 work too. I'm on them and I don't rub and I'm lowered on Tanabe DF's

Also as a side note to Mahout I see only maybe a 1mpg loss with my 205's.

these numbers could be +/-1 in width and lbs.
185/55R16 = 18 lbs. = 6.3" tread width = 24.01" overall diameter = actual speed 60mph
195/55R16 = 19 lbs. = 6.4" tread width = 1.76% diameter difference = actual speed = 58.9mph = speedo difference of 1.797% slower
205/50R16 = 20 lbs. = 6.5" tread width = 0.25% diameter difference = actual speed 59.8mph = speedo difference of 0.254% slower

I'd still go 205/50R16

I have the previously mentioned Falken ZIEX ZE 912's in 205/50-16, and my average mileage has only gone down 1mpg, while my stopping distance has decreased dramatically, the handling is significantly better, and the ride actually stayed the same (still a little rough, like the stock Dunlops).

Hope that helps!

I'm just hoping that by the time I have to look at tire replacement, and I'm thinking it will happen sooner than later...I'm hoping that more manufacturers jump in and start producing options in the stock size. The Fit is a pretty popular automobile.

Why did Honda put an oddball almost unattainable size on the Fit?
