I haven't seen anything like this on the forums, nor could I find anything related in search...

Has anyone else had an issue with the rubber on the shift knob separating from the aluminum? This is the second time this has happened to me - the first was on my '07 after about 2 1/2 years, which is about how long it's been on my '09. The dealer looked at the '07 and went ahead and covered it under warranty, I'm hoping they'll do the same with my '09.

Kind of hard to get a good pic, but here's what I could do:

 

how often do you rest your hand on the shifter while driving and not shifting?

Same thing happened to me, the shift knob is just poor quality

I am now using a fake Mugen dildo knob until I can find something better.

I did find that there were others in HT with the same problem:

Mine feels a little like its separating. But its not at the top, more along the middle of the knob.

I feel like squeezing some super glue in there.

 

yes, the shift knob is pretty poor in quality. happened to me as well...but i swapped to a weighted knob and i'm loving it. however, i did like how the stock knob looked and felt, but it was just a little cheap lol

 

MIne didn't, but then I replaced mine with the accesory "leather wrapped shift knob", which I like MUCH better.

 

Same issue here, noticed it today. 25K miles. I doubt the dealer will replace under warranty though... isnt this just wear and tear? VERY POOR quality imho! My CRV is 10 years old, 110K miles, no such issues!

 

Mine was replaced under warranty when I took it in for the LMS recall...2 for 2!

 

My car is five years old and the shift nob still looks like it did when it was new. I'm pretty sure it is leather covered because it matches the steering wheel.

 

Mine still looks brand new.

Im well under 36k, and three years.

 

I bought my Fit used and it had a crappy Autozone special fake aluminum knob. I decided to fork out the money for a MUGEN short shifter and MUGEN shift knob from the dealer I work at and purchased the vehicle from. It was well worth the money for a much better feeling "hand shaker". Unless you just love the OEM knob I would suggest finding a new one that suits your driving style and taste. Besides the dealer there are several places to check out. Good luck to you.

just get an aftermarket knob. that knob is so ergonomically incorrect you dont know what you're missing out of your tranny box feel.

i hated that knob. it is literally the worst knob i felt in a long time on MT cars.

 

That's why I replaced mine. The stock knob was really uncofortable to grab. It's like Honda did it deliberately, to get you to buy the accessory knob.

Sort of like what Harley-Davidson does with stock seats on their motorcycles.

 

My knob separated as well at 50k. Also my air conditioner totally fails after about 35 minutes of use. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. I've found that it is an engineering flaw and nothing is really broken; and Honda doesn't admit it's a problem. My car was also involved in the lost motion spring recall (fixed). Also, my windshield cracked within 30 days of ownership and progressed to rapidly to have it repaired. And my TPMS is always alerting me to low tire pressure at the slightest drop in temperature. I found new tires for my car (after an extensive search; good look finding tires for these cars, it is next to impossible, and expect to pay top dollar if and when you do find them), which still don't seem to hold the air pressure for any length of time. Also, I have noticed that when I vacuum the carpet, that the carpet is so cheap and thin, that it just wears off while vacuuming. This car is not what I expect from Honda at all, and no dealership seems very helpful to fix any issues. I've owned many Mopars, GM and even a Ford in the past. And maybe those cars weren't always the most reliable, but the dealership was always very helpful in correcting my issues in a timely, warranty covered repair. In essence, this car sucks and I will never purchase another Honda again.

 

What's your tires inflated to? Like 30 psi?

 

I think Honda recommends 35 psi, so that's what I inflate them to. And I do use a tire gauge to check the pressure to be sure that I am inflating them accurately.

 

That shouldn't trigger unless there's a huge swing in temperatures - like summer to freezing or something... TPMS has some leeway before it kicks in. What was the lowest reading among the 4 tires, when TPMS gets triggered?

I found somewhere around 29 psi or so, the TPMS will get triggered. It happened when I tried running 31 psi in the back and some temperature swings.
