Looking for 2" receiver hitch for bike rack.
I'm having a hard time finding a 2" receiver hitch for my 2008 fit sport. All I can find are 1 1/4 and I want to stay away from using any adapters. I'm also super nervous about just buying a universal 2" without someone telling me it's what worked for them.
Thanks, Eric |
I gave up and just got a new rack :( I think i'm going to try to get an adaptor for the new rack so that I only need one for the two vehicles, and sell my 2" rack.

I went through the same process. Ended up getting an 1 1/4 inch Hidden Hitch off www.etrailer.com. As a last resort I thought I could have the local welding shop modify it but I am not comfortable with that.

I'm good with my Hidden Hitch that is 1 1/4". The tongue weight capacity isn't much, like 200lbs I think so with my Yakima modified 1 1/4" rack and 2 MTB bikes, that's it. I wouldn't do any more than that.

So it sounds like you just went with the 1 1/4 hitch? |
All Fit hitches are Class I, so 1' 1/4" receivers are what you will be dealing with. I wouldn't TOW with a 1 1/2" to 2" adapter, but for 2" accessories like the bike rack, they are just what the doctor ordered. The adapter will add 10 pounds to your load, but your 2" accessory, with adapter, will be just as stable as having your 1 1/4" accessory direcly attached. I'd rather do that than buy a 1 1/4 rack and then have to use a step down adapter when you use it on a friends' 4x4 that has a 2" receiver. That's just sad.

Purchased this rack tonight.
Amazon.com: Swagman XTC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (1.25 and 2-Inch Receiver): Sports & Outdoors Went on etrailer.com and bought a 1 1/4 draw tite hitch. They have the best prices and great customer service so far. Ordered it late in the day and it still shipped out. Two thumbs up |
The 2" adapter for a 1 1/4" sticks out another 4-10" depending, and I didn't want the extra long moment arm on my hitch. Hence the new 1 1/4" rack, I think you'll be glad you went that way.

I have a top mounted Yakima Throwdown which is really made for a class II hitch but I'm only carrying 2 mtb. Make sure to get some pictures! |

Cool man. I appreciate the help. Do you ride dirty or are you a Roadie? Hehe
I'm using a Thule T2, which I find is the quickest and easiest for most any type of bike. It's similar to the rack you got. |

If it has 2 wheels and pedals, I ride it, and most likely have raced it at one point or another. Currently, it's mostly road, since I live in Ohio, which isn't terrific for mtb, though I'm moving to southwest Virginia, so I anticipate it'll even out more.

Rack and hitch installed last night.
I really like how this bike rack works. Very easy and very secure. Once I assemble my bike I'll get some better pics with it mounted. Attachment 37260 |
