5MT or AUTO?!

ok so im looking to get a Honda Fit Sport in TW and im unsure if i want 5MT or AUTO with Paddles...i know its preference, but i really want a car that is great on Gas but not so boring... so i figured the 5MT would still be fun to drive. I will be driving to work which is 20miles each way so im wondering what to do...

How is the 5MT on the FIT? i totalled my S2K n i loved the manual, just unsure if 40 miles a day would be annoying in stick...

Also, not too many 2011 TW Sport 5MT in my area...

hard to find

If you could find one, I'd get a manual. I'm pretty sure you can't order one right now though. I got the A/T and it's really good. Not quite as much fun as my old stick but the paddle shifters give all the utility of a stick and it downshifts pretty quickly too

ye my friend has an AUTO and says to get AUTO if its going to be my daily. Im looking to use the FIT as my Daily but it will be my only car until a yr or so down the road, so i think the Manual would be more fun. I guess i will have to think it though...i just wonder how nice the gearbox is on the FIT.

You can't go wrong either way, the Fit is a good car. The 5MT is not as good as S2K, but close, and way better than most cars out there. Try one and you'll see.

Minor but different:
Good on gas - 5MT > auto
Fun to drive - 5MT > auto
Convenience in heavy traffic - Auto > 5MT

Technically, the auto is better on gas (due to the gearing).

Having to drive 40 miles should be fine, it's more of a question of what you have to do in those 40 miles.

Lots of straight stop-n-go... auto.

A decent sprinkle of "exciting" curves, then MT. There are folks that complain about the paddles when turning, they don't like that the paddles move with the wheel.

The majority of my driving is short deliveries... and the auto "should've" been my purchase... But I got the MT anyway, and no regrets.

if i'd get an auto car, it would have to be something that shifts in less than tenths of seconds... get a stick!

ha ha thanks! honestly auto is the worst way to kill a small car, get manual and you can have lots of fun!!! (less problems down the road too )

i drive a lot in traffic, and never had a regret about having a manual, the clutch is also pretty light!

I vote 5MT. The auto, while good at what it does, just doesn't feel as satisfying enough when you want more control of the car. The paddle shifters narrow that gap, but there's something about having a clutch...

As others have mentioned, the best situation to have the auto in is if you do a lot of stop and go. The RPMs are lower in the AT when you are cruising at freeway speeds, therefore less engine noise, so consider that if you do mainly freeway driving.

If you find a dealer you like, they'll find your car for you if they're worth anything. My dealer found the 5mt in silver 175 miles away and had it to me the next day.

It's obviously down to personal preference but if you're asking how I like the MT in the fit, I think it's great! I really could not be happier with mine and have never had a regret about getting the MT--even when I'm stuck in traffic. The clutch and gearbox are super smooth and he car is a lot of fun to drive with a manual.

The general complaints some have are that the top gear makes too many revs on the highway so it needs a 6th gear. Also, supposedly, the auto gets better highway mileage but I'm getting 40+ so I have my doubts that the claim is accurate.

Good luck in your search. Finding an MT in your choice if color may take some patience but it's worth it.

Wait, yours came with raw power? I didn't see that as an option on the sheet. Must have been a dealer installed accessory, not a honda thing.
