Poll: who's switching to 0W-20?
 

So Honda's now recommending 0W-20 instead of 5W-20 for new Fits. In addition, my dealer's chart show's 0W-20 as "acceptable" for older Fits. Personally, I can't see any drawbacks, and it seems like startup protection would improve. But I'm torn, because the logical part of me sez: "Then why did they recommend 5W-20 in the first place?" So what are YOU using?

My conversion to Mobil 1 last year had me going to Ow oil, but my mistake I put in Ow30 instead of Ow20, this past oil change in February had me go to the Ow20 Mobil 1. At that time I switched to a Royal Purple filter too, just because its 100% pure synthetic filter media compared to the Mobil 1 filter that has a blend. In the grand scheme of things, probably doesn't matter that much. I have my old Ow30 to have tested to see how long it can really stay in the car too, that particular oil was in there for 9,088 miles, so we'll see;)

The dealership told me $120 for synthetic change, screw that. My buddy and I change my oil in his driveway. I buy him an oil filter for his MS3 or something from Autozone and we're good. He doesn't even want anything in exchange, he just likes doing it, kind of how I am with wheeling cars.

For now its 5w20, but after September they might only use 0w20. I on my way for a oil change and I will ask questions.

@KA: yep 6k and it's the 2nd oil change. first oil change was around 3k +/1 and here's my plugs at 6k too... I changed it to IK22 https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...tml#post982773

That seem high, I have a coupon for 0w20 for 54 with tire rotation compared to 34.

0w20 used to be available locally about 18-24 months ago but not now. I was using it until my local sources dried up. I did score a case of M1 0w30 for half price on close out at my local parts dealer and that was my first Fit oil change. If and when the M1 0w20 again becomes available, I will be using it.

Ive got M1 0w20 as far back as 2004. Mobil discontinued it for a little while and then Katrina came through and damaged the factory in Texas. There is a shortage because of the back log and cars that require it but because of GF5, conventional 0w20 is coming out soon. Ive used M1 0w30 too and is a great oil too. M1 0w20 is at Walmart but sometimes hard to find 5 quarts.

We've been using Mobil 1 0w-20 for the past 17k miles. It worked well when the temperatures were -15*F this past winter.

0w-20 is a nice thing to have on hand. There are 2 oil changes worth sitting on the shelf. Likely I'll add another when the Fit needs another change.

0w20 has more viscosity modifiers added. More viscosity modifiers take up room for contaminants. Also iirc the viscosity modifiers are one of the ingredients that coke up the turbo bearing. As such, I'm sticking with 5w20. However AmSoil claims they make a 0w20 with no viscosity modifers added at all :/

I was in pepboys and saw 0-30 and some royal purple 0-40 any thoughts? I am still on my break in oil (car is 4 days old) so I have a few months to figure it out

i run total quartz racing oil 10w50.

Ow at any temp is going to flow faster and start lubing the critical parts sooner, its just a fact. Now, as far as what warm grade, well, if I lived where its warm all the time, like the southwest and where its VERY HOT in the spring/summer, southwest, I'd probably switch to the 0w40 "European" car formula of Mobil 1 but since I'm stuck in the midwest where the weather sucks, even after its 86 degree's last Sunday and snowing this morning, seriously Al Gore, is this what you mean't by "Global warming":rolleyes:

Just so I'm not confused but when you say the past 17k, is that on one oil change or total? I've heard of people being able to go that long on syns, just asking;)

Economy cars like the insight or prius? What do you think the Fit is? It's not a race car heh. The Fit is an economy car.

uhh yeah dude... cars like the prius and insight... uhhh hybrid cars.

ya lol i was thinking the same thing. imo a fit is not an econo car. ya it might be it that class but if i remember right the civic gets better gas mileage and performs better.
