cargo shelf

Hi,

I wanted to install a cargo shelf in the back of my Fit, but Honda Canada wants a ridiculous amount of money for one. Can anyone recommend a more generic one?

Thanks,
mps

Look for online deals for the OEM one.

You likely can find one cheaper than dealer price, just by hunting around the internet. Check the vendors...

Or hunt around this forum. I think there has been at least one thread where somebody showed how they made a real slick looking one. I thought it actually looked better than the OEM.

I paid too much for the OEM from the dealership...but I REALLY like it. For security and ease of removal? IMO it should just be standard but it's a great extra.

I have dark tint on mine. Can't see into hatch area. Don't need shelf.

I want one because it supposedly cuts down on road noise. I was debating on trying to build one but... well... I have a garden to build, a house to fix, and a 4 yr old... it's in the To-do pile along with adding the subs/amps I have from the Integra to the Fit...

Just buy it online from a place like handaaccessories.com or collegehillshonda.com and install it yourself. It's super easy especially if you leave off the felt flap/snaps like I did. They are pointless anyways.

Definitely buy it from an online vendor. I bought mine on Amazon....can't quite remember the vendor name though. It is very easy to install, just don't attach it to the back seats....if you do, then you won't be able to fold down the seats all the way unless you unsnap it...which to me is a pain if you fold the seats down often...

I find the snaps just pop off when I fold down the seats. That said, I wish it were slightly cleverer and the whole thing would stow under the trunk floor.

It does reduce the road noise from the back. I also bought mine to contain smells as I frequently carry trash in the back. Without it smells immediately waft to the front of the car, with it I practically cannot smell anything until hatch is opened.

I found the best deal on Ebay, seller accepted my best offer of $115, no tax and shipping only $5 so total $120 delivered to my door.

What did you make it from? I've been debating doing something myself.

x2 here for making one yourself. I have a GD but it is the same concept.

1" thick board, black felt, furnature tacks, fabric adhesive, and a template made out of cardboard.

I built mine with wood pieces that were cut to fit that space, and held together with L shaped brackets. That's the pic of the frame, which is like a ladder shape and then after that, I just went to the plastic store and had them cut a custom sized black acrylic plastic that I drilled to the top of the frame. simple shelf

I doubt it is that much but doesn't lift up when the hatch is opened and doesn't look to be very easily removeable either. If you have the materials already laying around the cost was probably low but if you had to go out and buy everything from scratch not worth it. Spend the $120 for Honda shelf and if you ever sell your car you can get half your money back.

Amazes me that people will spend hundreds and thousands on custom wheels, sound systems, lowering, etc. but don't want to spend anything on functional accessories.

I ordered mine from College Hills Honda. Install was pretty easy.
