Bent GE8 Rod (pics)

Got greedy with the boost and lazy with the tune. I had convinced myself the engine was unsinkable anyway... That didn't work out too well. Developed a bad bad rod knock 4th run at 14psi. It did drive me home. I finally got a chance to pull my engine out.

The Fit can fit itself. Makes a good part storage area.

This is getting too easy, way too easy. I can strip down the engine and remove it in less than 6 hours. Don't mind the sloppy weight distribution, there's tons more room in the engine bay than you'd ever imagine.

So what's the damage...

damn...

damn...

damn...

damn...

crown held up fine though.

Anyway, my headgasket is still on it's way. Then I'l attach the good head from this 2nd engine with the good short block from my original engine and be back on my way. No more boost untill I either fix my Escort or buy another back up car. I don't particularily enjoy borrowing others cars while all mine are disabled.

It was worth it.

The bulletproof reliability of my 1983 Honda CX650 Turbo (motorcycle) was the clincher in my decision to buy a Fit. It runs at 16 PSI, and the horsepower doubles to 100HP... they specially designed the forged pistons, etc. for that model. The technology was insane for the era, with digital fuel injection tied to myriad sensors.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeit....these things are strong.....must have been a pretty loud knock on the way home.

Are the engines still cheap to get? Any special hassles making the pull out of a wreck? Beginning to think a few things over.

I wasn't paying attention I guess, but didn't your first block suffer a compromised cylinder wall brought on by an excess of laughing gas?

Thoroughly enjoy your threads; think they'd make a great graphic novel.

I am a little surprised that they have raised letters on the piston top. Can you say Hot Spots, looks like the Detonation came from the IN in the Top thats where it is the shiniest.

The "Gangsta Lean" Rod mod. Very nice, got me a couple of those too! Bound to happen when you start to make some real power!

14psi is starting to get into some very inefficient islands on that toy turbo you found on fleaBay lol

Now it's time for:
Bigger, more efficient turbo (bigger on both sides!)
Less timing
More Boost
More Fuel
Meth

Git R Dun ;D

This is why I won't go turbo. Mad props on everything you've done...but my Fit is my daily and I can't afford to have it fail on me. Even the Odyssey battery gives me the occasional cause for concern (I have two of them now, one for back up always on the trickle charger).

I'd still like to get a ported GE8 head (intake and exhaust) along with the WR header and 12.5:1 pistons....control everything with AEM EMS version 2 and call it a day. Fast...no. Reliable...yes. ITBs would be icing on the cake...but there goes the reliability/longevity.

I was boosting 10 psi all day long DD without a hitch. You could go 8 psi and be fearless. I've effectively proven that the stock ecu will protect you up to 10 psi. After 10 your on your own because knock detection can't keep up with how quickly failure will occur. Under 10 psi the stock ecu will allow you to run a really aggressive tune and completely get away with it. In my case that cause false confidence, but somebody had to be the one to find out, it just happened to be me.

I wish you were closer by so I could show you how little could be done with the head. There's really nothing to pnp in there and behind the valves is already polished up to where it expands to the beginning of the valve seat. Then again when you look at the redline and SOHC design, 117 hp is about as much power as I would expect an 'optimized' setup to make to begin with. Only making it spin faster would justify a PNP, cam, etc. However, I would expect a manifold with shorter runners to produce up to 5 hp but the area under the curve would certainly suffer. Just IMHO.

I was actually hoping for something with longer runners to optimize TQ and midrange.

Do you think there's any room for improving the exhaust ports on the L15a7?

And IL isn't that far from MN. Maybe we'll be able to get a FitFreak Midwest meeting in the fall. I pray that I'll have my civic done by then...it's becoming a financial anchor at this point. But, all will be worth it the first time I spin the tires 1st through 3rd
