Just like JCrimson said, yes, you should definitely get an alignment. I would recommend that you wait a few weeks for the springs to settle before doing the alignment though.
GE can't be shimmed like the GDs... you have to cut and re-weld (or cut, drill holes and bolt up) the plates... since they are already welded up.

With a Macpherson suspension, it's ride height sensitive because of the construction. If you do in the range of dropping .0" (obviously) - 1" (can possibly do more without alignment), then it should be fine with minimal alterations to toe and camber. Anything drastic would need an alignment.
In my opinion you don't need an alignment everytime you do a minimal drop just to correct minimal change in toe and camber, but people will tell you to get an alignment. If you are really paranoid about it, and tire wearing, it doesn't hurt to do the alignment.
I would do everything at once with suspension. Install the suspension, get it to your specific ride height, and adjust camber if it comes with camber plates then alignment.
