New member - new 2012 Fit Sport!

Hi everyone!

I just got my Fit last night. 2012 Fit Sport in black:

Got out of an 07 MINI Cooper S that was fun and fast, but was killing me on repairs. Though the Fit is a lot slower, it's still fun and I really like it!

Welcome to the forum fellow Texan!

You'll enjoy your Fit in comparison to your old R56. Sure, it may be down on power but it is almost as nimble as the MCS stock for stock and can carve corners just as well with a few goodies.

Hey, neighbor! Yeah, that R56 was a beast - I loved it! By the 50,000 mike mark I had spent 5 grand in repairs, plus brakes (another 1000). I bought it with 27,000 miles on it and had it one year. It wiped out my savings by going into the shop!

I'm hoping the Fit is a better designed car - and knowing Honda, it probably is!

Sure miss the Cooper S's turbo engine on the highway, though!

Congratulations on your new ride. The Fit should be less of a maintenance hassle for you. I have 80k on mine and haven't even done the brakes. Just oil/filters/tires and one wiper change. No burnt bulbs or anything else.

Jeez, that's quite a bit for repairs. I've had my 2008 GD3 since November 28th of '07 (built in October of '07) and been driving the thing like I stole it most of the time. Also, haven't had a single mechanical quirk with it as of yet with 45,700+ miles aside from slightly boiling the brake fluid (congested traffic afraid to drive on hilly north Texas roads ). Just keep up with the maintenance and you'll be fine.

I have a good friend of mine who has a late '08 R56 (built in August of '08), she's had the thing in the MINI dealer several times for repairs. Brakes were one of the services as well as a bolt in either the head or engine block that backed out thus causing a leak which is common for pre-2011 R56 MCS's between the 35k to 45k mile mark from what I read.

I also got out of a Cooper S to buy my Fit. Traded my '08 in on Wednesday for a '12 Fit Sport.

I loved the Mini, but it was getting ready to go out of warranty soon, and that, coupled with the new investigation just started by the NHSTA about '07 and '08 Cooper S's having spontaneous fires, lead me believe the time to trade was now.

Lord - they are catching fire? I got rid of mine because the repair bills were outrageous! I really think that the R56 is a poorly designed car. Timing chain goes out at 39,000 miles - high pressure fuel pump out at 49,000 miles. Those two things plus front and rear brakes cost me 7 thousand dollars. It had to go.

Yes...the National Highway Safety Transportation Association just started an investigation into this a few days ago. I believe that 12 cars have spontaneously caught fire, and some of them were not even running. A lot of people are now afraid to park their '07 and '08 Cooper S's in their garage at night (according to some of the posts I see on North American Motoring).

BTW, the timing chain and tensioners were changed out on my car at around 25,000 miles.

I had planned on keeping my Mini until I heard of the investigation, and feared that this, along with the bad reliability issues and costs I might of had after my warranty expired, well...this led me to want to buy a car with excellent reliability (thus the Fit).

I like that color, is that the orange? It doesn't really look like Milano. Welcome aboard guys!

it's kinda fishy... catching fire while NOT running.

But, if it were true... that's totally FREAKY.

As nice as the Mini looked sometimes, I never really thought about owning one namely cause I can't afford it... now I realize just how much I REALLY can't afford it.

If it were the Fit... if you had $7k in repair bills in one year... it's easier just to trade it in for a new one!

I've always said that I would drive my cars into the ground... but that's just over the top insane (for me).

Correct, orangeburst metallic. Looks copper in shade, burnt orange in sun. Love it.

I really like the black on black headlights. I don't like it as much on the other colors, except for red and black.

Now all you need to do is get yourself some tint and that thing will look even sweeter!

Pick my Black Fit Sport up tomorrow

I'm very disappointed already! I thought I'd have the only black Fit in the USA

Order some minor stuff already though - rear cargo shelf, AL pedals, and leather shifter knob!!

i was in the same situation with a r56....mines was still under the warranty but within a year of owning it i had three problems that needed for me to leave the car at the dealer. as cool and fun as it was to drive, the mini cooper is unpredictable as far as mechanical problems. its basically a money pit without a warranty. congrats on the fit.

i got my mini cooper on april 2010 and on that mother's day i drove from miami to see my parents in orlando. the ride was cool but when i got to orlando the car started smoking which had me in shock cuz the car only had 2000 miles at the time...it turned out that the oil line that goes to the turbo cracked which was a common problem as i was told...those cars are suspect.
