Retrofit style opinions needed!

Thinking about starting a retrofit soon. I'm debating between 2 options.

1) Keep the headlights clear and apply chrome vinyl to the orange reflector

2) Keep the orange reflector and black out most of the rest

As she sits now (edit: gold rims are probably in the future):

Black example:

Chrome example (imagine it w/o the orange):

For whatever reason, I really don't care for any type of amber reflector in my headlight. Has anybody removed it completely and then painted the housing black? Seems to me it'd look good that way.

Back to your question though, between these two options I'd opt for the chrome vinyl over the reflector.

I think chrome would be the best option for you. It would match your wheels and provide a clean look against the black. The "murdered" VW look doesn't do it for me.

Could someone photoshop the pic of the blue Fit w/ black headlights and make the Fit black?

Thanks!

i feel like the reflector is in there for legal purposes. just like the difference between usdm and jdm tails back on the ek civics were the reflector. don't headlights have to have them? plus, removing them leaves a void where they used to be (just had mine out). they stick out so much because there's chrome behind them. if you either paint behind them, or vinyl over them...it's a better option. just my .02

and i know, doing a retrofit period is illegal. just not as noticeable if you do it well.

hey, that's my car!

i'm actually doing another retrofit in grey-colored base headlights, though. i don't know if i'll like it since it may clash with the stock taillights that i'm not planning on changing out. and i'm not going to tint my windows. i guess the darker headlights would kinda match with my window visors, though.

oh, and i like the amber reflectors. i'm just glad our cars have headlights that you can see from the side with integrated side markers. i can't stand a separate side marker. they look out of place.

*not that i wouldn't take the car as a whole.

Personally I like your current retrofit with the stock chrome, I think it flows better on white. What's the new retrofit setup you are doing?

Lowkey, I also think chrome on black looks good, gives the front end some contrast. You can always just remove the orange reflector as it is detachable. All black would look good if you go for a murdered out theme.

For my retrofit, I only blacked out the outer chrome housing and left the bowl chrome just in case for whatever reason I have to go back to halogen bulbs. It also gives it an ambient glow when the projectors are on.

I've considered getting a clear reflector from the hardware store and cutting it to fit to replace the amber. I have a gd though my reflectors are flat not sure about ges. Just a thought

the laws will probably vary depending on which state you live in so it's best to read what they have to say from your state gov website. have fun deciphering the language on these documents though. =P

I like the look of the blacked out retrofits best, I just am not sure how it would look on a black car...

Like I said, black with chrome shroud. I look at headlights for around 60 hours per week.

not really sure, yet. i have a pair of base headlights and a mini h1 kit in a box and might get a pre-fabbed foreground limiter from a local retrofitter. but, i'm also considering FX just to get it over with.

Have you seen the high beam on an EvoX-R?
