It had to happen sometime the yen is too strong against the dollar. I read an article earlier than they were supposed to be made in Mexico but this is shocking as well.

 

If this goes much farther we won't buy another.

I agree. On the bright side, our current Fits made in Japan will hold extraordinary resale value…

As long as it keeps the Japanese QC standards and isn't another example of China's fine craftsmanship... Sorry but this alone would deter me from purchasing this vehicle if in the market.

100% I bought a GD in Canada but wanted the LT / MT Bone stock Option:W/AC and Power-door-lock and paid the shipping cost $2500 ...mostly made in Japan (hopefully the motor mostly) but strange I can find things on the car saying made in mexico. Seems like Honda has been pulling the wool over our eyes for some time already on our domestic soil. But overall I know my FIT is Japanese, and that is what is important for me when owning an import. I could agree with Honda and the move to try and make "razor edge thin" profit by lowering import fee , but at the cost of a stamped FIT that says" *MadeInChina* ?!?!?!?, Sorry guys, but I am the kinda guy who buys made in Japan vs CHINA any dayofdaweek.

 

Yiiikes! Even a lot of the ''American Made" model vehicles have a lot of the parts made overseas and assembled here..

 

Not really, if QC went bad on the Fit, all of them would be lower in resale value regardless of why and where it was made. And even if it was, you really think someone buying a used fit with the budget we're talking about would really pay much more.

At least for the US, don't worry about it for now. Car manufacturers make cars everywhere depending on the market. Lots of the toyotas in South East Asia in countries like Thailand are made in Thailand not Japan.

 

May be, if this fact is well known. Most people don't know or care where their car is built. The brand name is what they know.
.... and I was gonna buy a 2013, the last of the made in Japan FIT before they move the production to Mexico. Too late.

 

I'd take Hecho en Mexico any-day over Made in Deathtrap/Plastic... I mean China.

 

Funny, when the Japanese first started building cars here, people had the same worries- would Japanese nameplates built in America suffer the same quality issues as American cars?

Turns out, the Japanese cars made here were roughly as reliable as Japanese cars made in Japan...

 

I guess its only the parts and IMHO lots of parts in other quality electronics are made in China, its only that its assembled someplace else..

80% of worlds electronic components come from China.. Right now even at the screen you are looking into has 60-70% of its parts made in China, does that make it cheapo or less reliable ??

as long as the Japanese standards are maintained I am okay with it..

and other than that mostly the parts will be sent to our country INDIA, to make Honda's vehicles more cheap than the competitors..

 

What's important is the quality control that Honda institutes, not where it is built. Remember, the highly beloved iPhone is built in China too. Do you really think companies like Honda and Apple don't care about quality standards in their products?

 

I know I shouldn't care, logically.

But emotionally I sure as heck care! Thank heavens I got my Japanese-built model!

kinda sad news, I was hoping with enough demand here they would open shop in the US, like the Accord, Civic, CRV etc... But like Dragon said, even though they were assembled in Japan I bet 70-80% of the parts came from China anyways. And Even though they were assembled in Japan, they likely weren't assembled by any Japanese people, From what I've read most of the Car factory workers in Japan are immigrants from South America.

 

Well let see how well those Chinese assembled Fits hold up.

This has nothing to do with Hondas assembled in China, but I hope that this is not the future trend with automobile parts that are produced there:
