Non-working a/c. What to check first

Ok so I barely ever use my a/c so I don't know what happened or when. A couple years back I had to replace the blower speed control thing-a-ma-jig. That's been it. Anywho, this morning, I finally got hot enough to turn on a/c on a morning drive (I live in Louisiana). And I got zip, zilch, nothing. I do 99% interstate commuting in my car (09 sport w/ 91k miles now) so I can certainly see the rock issue. I got down and looked and only see a few little dings. One MAY have produced a pin prick sized hole in one of the bars of the condenser but it's so small I can't even tell... But is there a fuse to check first before I get someone to hook up gauges or something?

Go somewhere and check the freon level, here at Firestone we call it a evac and recharge. We check the level, check for leaks and recharge it to the proper amount as necessary.

Ok then that's what I'll do. I didn't know if there was something simpler I could do before getting to some gauges. I swear...I've been annoyed with this car for a while now and spent all day trying to deal w/ my honda (new Si anyone?) and other new car dealers but didn't want to talk to anyone on the phone b/c I'm at work. Conclusion, no one wants to deal by email... Screw them, I'll just get the car fixed.

Well, it was indeed a rock to the condenser. When I got confirmation of the diagnosis, I walked over to a salesman and asked to test drive an Si sedan. I'm signing the papers this afternoon.

$783. Not horrible but it just gave me a reason to upgrade. Drove the Si to work this morning. It's so nice not to drop two gears just to go up the slightest grade in the road.
