Will the 2014 Fit still be the 2nd generation model in North America?
I read an article stating that Honda may not wait to include the new earth dreams motor for the 3rd gen Fit. Does that mean that the 2014 fit in the US may still be the 2nd generation model with the new earth dreams motor and possibly CVT? Since the New Honda plant in Mexico won't be operational until the Spring of 2014, does that mean the US will get the 3rd generation Fit as a 2015 model?
Since Honda is VERY good at keeping secrets, your guess is as good as anyone's. Until spy photo's of a Fit mule car come to surface, no one will know. Remember that the 2st gen Fit was actually available since 2001 in Japan and didn't come until 2 years before its redesign in the States. By deduction, that puts the 3rd gen Fit due for release as a 2014 model (but that can always change for various reasons).

Dream engine or not, I'm keeping my 2nd gen Fit. I fear Honda may do to the 3rd generation what they did to the second generation and make it heavier. I'm happy with my second gen (though fixing the mother loving pant would be awesome)
I like the 2nd generation Fit, and I'm ready to buy one before the 3rd gen comes out. My local dealership will order me the one I want in about a week, but now I'm unsure. One gripe that I have with the Fit Sport is the lower highway mileage. So, the prospect of getting a 2nd gen 2013 Fit with a more fuel efficient motor and transmission is appealing. I wonder if they would also include Honda Link. However, I'm not to familiar with the way Honda or any other company handles transitions like this. Do car companies ever make changes like this for the last year of an outgoing model?

thanx for the replies. I know that the 2013 has been out, and I'm wanting one. It just sounds like the 2014 fit in the US may still be the 2nd generation model with the new motor. I just don't want to regret not waiting for the 2014.
In the car world, there is always something bigger, better, faster. The classes, models, and manufacturers are always changing. It doesn't matter what you do but whatever you buy, the next year you will be hard for something else.
I've been reading every article I can get my hands on, and here's what I think is going on with the Next Generation of the FIT:
Honda plants are preparing for a July 2013 release of a model-year 2014 Honda Fit for JAPAN that may look something like this:

Meanwhile the plant in Mexico, under construction, will begin producing these cars in 2014 as a model-year 2015. It'll be similar to how Honda released the current version of the FIT as an '08 model one-year before releasing it here in the states.
There's also rumor the Mexico plant will release a compact-SUV version of the FIT to compete with Kia:

So if I were to take money to Las Vegas, I'd bet on a 2015 model-year FIT change, released early ... right after the big auto shows. I'd say April 2014 as a 2015 model.

This is very interesting, thank you. Now, do you think that the US 2014 will still be 2nd generation, or will the US skip a 2014 model?
I think we will get the "new" version ... but my guess is it will be delayed one year (see this new one in 2013 as a '14 model in Japan, see this car in the USA in 2014 as a '15 model).
That's what Honda did last time with the fit (2007 as an '08 model in Japan, 2008 as an '09 model in the USA)
This model will be built in Mexico for the USA, and still in Japan for Japan. It's simply an exchange-rate issue. I'm skeptical the '15 and '16 models will be as high of quality as the Japanese-built ones, since it will be a brand-new plant. I think after a few years they'll get the quality control up and it will be pretty good. I suspect my '12 model will be pretty worn out by 2022, and I could see myself potentially buying a Mexican-built Fit by then.
