I am one of those guys whose idea of a great time is a weekend working on my car getting my hands dirty. Before buying my Fit I mostly had American cars and I was always fixing up something on them. Before my Fit I have never owned a Japanese and the problem I'm having is a garage full of tools and a Fit that never breaks down. I had my Fit for over 2 years and in that time I did 36,xxx miles and I only changed my oil and filter 3 times. Don't get me wrong I love my Fit Sport but nothing ever goes wrong on it and I don't know what to do with my weekends.

 

Just crash it into a shopping cart, wall, tree, curb, or anything really, depending on what type of work you'd like to do on the car.

Sounds like you need to just go ahead and start with modifications......intake, exhaust, lowering springs, new audio system, new wheels and tires, center console, Clazzio seat covers, etc. That should keep you busy for a little while.

I got the opposite problem. I had a Mini that I wouldn't drive because I knew something would break. Now I drive my Fit all the time, I barely have any time to sit around on the weekends anymore.

 

I've never enjoyed fixing things that break. That's why I bought a Honda.

 

I recommend that you evaluate "most bang for your buck" upgrades/modifications:

• window tints
• Magnefine in-line transmission filter upgrade
• Sound dampening materials to reduce interior cabin noise
• LED lamp upgrades for the interior light and trunk light
• Projector lenses and bi-xenon headlight retrofit

Unless you are a ricer, these are a nice place to start IMO.

 

I have the same problem with my Fit as you OP. Pick up a project car to tinker with. My next project is my first earnest foray into American Iron, should be interesting.

 

I was pulling engines outta cars and trucks at the age of 14, the day I got my drivers license I had a full time job at a truck repair shop....in the end I got so tired of working on other peoples crap I changed professions. Now I'm just happy to put the key in the ignition turn it and go...Yay Honda!!

 

Honestly I thought about getting into modification business with my Fit, but I was never too big into that scene. On the other hand I do not want to be labeled as a RICER so I will leave it stock for now. About 7 years ago I started modifying this BMW I had and OMG!!! Modifications are like drugs because once you open that can of worms good luck. Next think I know I was broke because all the money went into my car so I stopped it cold turkey.

 

I am seriously considering that option at this point. I'm not into American muscle cars but would buy a Mercedes or BMW from 1980's and work it back into original condition.

 

Buy a NA Miata, join Club Roadster will never run of modifications perhaps money.

 

Now you kinow why Fit pilots lower, change shocks, wheels and tires, and do all sorts of 'improvements.

 

Do repairs and installs with/for other fitfreakers.

you can do subtle mods, without 'ricing' it out.

 

Get a KIA, you will be forever busy fixing it.

 

If you WANT a car that's going to break down, the Fit is not the car for you. I mean honestly, ANY new car is going to be pretty reliable. You need to buy something older if you want it to break down on a regular basis. Go find a 1989 CRX. Mega fun, old enough to require a watchful eye on the fuel pump and CV joints.
