Why did you buy a M/T Fit?

I don't know how to drive an auto.
Lol. Beats Mike410b's “because I have a pulse” by a nose.

With MT you can anticipate the traffic and so have the power there when you need it. With AT there’s always that painful lag while it figures out what you want. And then when it gives it to you about 20% of the power is lost in the tranny.


And people pay more for this?

I bought it because my right hand would fidget with the AT shifter, and my left leg was bored.

And yes, I am being serious.

What, how are they going to be able to text, drink a mocca lakka, and shift at the same time? And then having to trowel on some more make up!

OK, the question was.......Why did you buy a M/T Fit?

And when the converter is not locked up, there is slippage.
It would be nice if you could keep the converter locked up, and trans in 5th gear, when cruising in 5th gear. Like at 60 mph, and you want to pass another car, and the engine has enough torque at that rpm, to accelerate in 5th (converter locked) to do the job, but, no, the trans unlocks the converter, and shifts down to a lower gear. Stay in 5th gear, damnit.

Oh god! If that's the worst thing that happens to me.....I'll get over it. I can't believe how many folks buy this thing for performance.....or expect that from this car. It's an economy car folks. Really!

I guess I don't like beating on my car.

Doing anything that you'd expect a car to do in day to day driving is not beating on the car. It is designed to do that stuff. Don't worry so much. You're doing more damage lugging the motor in 5th trying to pass than revving out 4th and passing like you're supposed to.

Wait how does a manual trans prevent texting and such while driving? I shift and steer left handed when my right hand is occupied. It's simple now that I've done it a few hundred times.

My problem is, that I don't expect my car to rev past 4,000 rpm, in day to day driving.
At 50 mph, and I step on the gas to pass, in 5th gear, the engine is hardly lugging!

Here, check this out:

The car is barely making 70hp at 4k. VTEC is barely coming into play there. The motor is designed to rev, stop worrying about it. If you're worried about winding out the motor you picked the wrong car. This is not an old V8 that redlines at 5k.

Also if you're going 50mph in 5th and you're trying to pass by stomping on the gas then yes you are lugging it. Downshifting to 4th is much more efficient (both for power and economy). When you floor the throttle in 5th all you're doing is dumping a shit ton of fuel for no reason.

I can vouch for the ATL commute. I couldn't handle rowing through gears everyday during rush hour here and since I basically spend 3 hours a day in this hell, an MT wasn't a consideration.

I'm sure the MT Fit is a fun ride, but I find my AT does everything I need in traffic and it gets awesome gas mileage as well.

OK, I probably skew all the stats here. My last auto tranny car was a '71 Buick Skylark GS. Every single car since then has had a stick: a Dodge, two Toyotas and another Honda before the Fit.

Three reasons. 1. Better fuel economy. 2. Less complicated than an automatic, less to go wrong. 3. It's just fun to row through the gears.

My 2013 Fit Sport MT replaced my 1999 Saturn SW2 MT. I like an MT because I feel more in control, MTs are usually more gas efficient, MTs tend not to break (vs ATs) and, with these small engines, the MT usually has more available power. Also, in case of battery trouble, they can be started easily by pushing.

Not in this case. Just more control over use of that power, versus the cars computer making those choices for you based on your inputs.

From what I have read (not that I believe everything I read online) VTEC doesn't come on until 5400 rpm.
Also, if I'm doing 50 and want to pass, I wouldn't "stomp on the gas" Not needed to increase speed enough. I know when the engine is lugging, and I agree that it's not good for an engine.
