short shifter questions.... kinda confused

Hello all.... i am a soon to be proud owner of a 13 pmm fit sport (ordered it today), i have a list of upgrades rolling around in my head and after the test drive i realized how far the distance between 1st and second gear was... so with that said what is the best items to install to cut that down? Also how would i cut down the amount of left to right play while in gear?
Also links to sites that sell those parts
And before you burn me on my first post please know i did do a search amd came up empty handed
Thanks a million

go on ebay and buy that short shifter, revo I believe.

Remember that a short shifter isnt a factor of a short lever, but short action on the tranny

Honestly the Fits shifter isnt that long at all. You may just be used to a previous car that had a really nice shifting experience

I installed a revo SS that I bought from a fellow forum member it's def one of my fav mods so far. Drastically reduced the throw distance between gears and feels a lot more solid than stock. There is a used mugen SS for sale on the site going for a 100 bux, solid deal. But that's all just my opinion.

LOL dude I agree with the OP, although a few members totally disagree with me.... It just seems like the car has long throws for a smaller car. Plus having a short throw shifter just feels so much better anyway. I put one in my mustang I had, it just felt right. From what I've read (using the search feature) seems like people like revo shifter best. Here is more info:

Correct me if I'm wrong but wont this one fit? $85....

The center console is held in with a single screw and two plastic rivets.while the complete shifter assembly is held in with 4 bolts. So easy a caveman could do it. While you're at it, install a weighted shift knob. It will completely change the feel of the transmission

Ok so is it possible to add a revo + extension? Like the skunk 2? Without any pop outs? Ive read that it makes it pop out of 1, 3 and 5th gear

Sorry for so many questions but being a huge car guy at the age of 30 ive owned a lot of cars and all but my most resent (R.I.P. 2008 Scion XB total loss because of a drunk driver t-_-t ) have been 5 or 6 speed manuals. And i have always replaced bushings and shifters...

But the fit i test drove just seemed like an old ford ranger lol like 6-7 inch throw and 2-3 inch side to side... so let me know what to do to cut down the side to side also

Thanks!

Yes, 09-13 all use the same shifter assembly.

Please don't spread rumors like this there have been NO reported problems with gear pop out with any of these short throw shifters.

They don't change ANYTHING other than the length of the shifter below the pivot point.

If anybody has a pop out problem either their syncros were bad before installation or they messed up the installation of the shifter somehow.

just wanna give a quick updatei have a revo ss with the h-fit adaptor and hard mountings and the result is such a short shift. the throw is now quite heavy, really heavysomethings i realised while doing this.you need the hfit hard mount otherwise the shifter balljoint will not lock into gears 1,3 and 5 because it hits the metal plate of the car.with the hard mounts, the OEM bolts aren't long enough so you will need to source some longer bolts

That is what i read from another page...

I've got a GD, and I installed the Skunk2 kit pictured above. I still have the side to side play, but I just deal with it. I would imagine without a full replacement of the shifter assembly(big black thing above in pictures) it would be hard.

The play is probably there also as somewhat of a safety thing. To help you make sure the gear your going into is big enough for millions of up and down shifts.

The play is probably due to the way the linkage is set up. Every car has some play, more than others but it's probably always going to be there.

I honestly don't notice/feel any side to side slop in the shifter. I switch gears and then take my hand off the shifter. I really don't drive the car hard tho.

The side to side play is normal in any car. Some ca companies do use a return spring of sorts to firmly keep it centered whenever possible.

Remember the older civics with BAR shifting instead of cable shifting? Even with solid mounts on the stabilizer bar and the stiffest offered bushings, I still had side to side play.

But that mug JUMPED into gear when I wanted to!!

Weighted knob= a must with shorter shifting. A MUST!! Like rims after lowering a car. You just cannot get away with stock rims and lowered for too long. Eventually new rims are a must!!!
