Post DIY - Switchback Turn/Parking LED (information)

Hello

I found some other posts without information of the Honda parts and how to do exactly this modification, now here you're a detailed list and step by step process

List of HONDA parts:
2 x '96-'00 Civic front turn signal sockets 33302-SR3-A01
1 pack '96-'00 Civic connectors 04321-SR3-308 (it comes in a 5 units per pack)
1 pack of pig tail connectors 04320-SP0-E00

Other parts and tools:
2 x 6000K Dual Color Switchback 1157/BAY15D LED light bulb (6K TYPE 2 DUAL COLOR CHANGING WHITE AMBER SWITCHBACK 42 HIGH POWER LED TURN SIGNAL BULBS 1157 2057 | 1 PAIR)
2 x 25W 8Ω Load Resistor or Load Equalizer (to avoid hyperflashing)
Heat shrink tubes 1/8" - 1/16" (22-18 AWG)
Soldering iron + accesories
Multimeter
Pliers
Black vinyl electrical tape
...

Here some pictures

In this image you can see the Honda socket 33302-SR3-A01 is fully compatible with the Stock socket we have in our Fits (front turn signals) , the socket Honda 1157 lock perfect, and your connections will be waterproof as the original, no other modification or tape needed.

Even if the switchback LED bulb is bigger than the standard bulb, it fit without any problem in the headlight assembly.

In this image I show you how to pair the wires with the Load Equalizer to avoid the hyperflashing, the third yellow wire will be connected to the positive wire from the parking lights or DRL (add to fuse circuit in my case)

Finally the works has been done, here the extension (add a circuit) to have the white light as DRL, I deactivate my DRL from the headlights and now they works in the Switchback LED

Seriously. You are going to post up a DIY thread and a link to another Honda site?

Seriously?

I'll try to answer your question:

Using these Honda Parts you will be able to install a Switchback Led Bulb or a Double Filament Bulb in the same place where it was installed the front turn bulb.

-- The front turn bulb socket is not standard you cannot install a 1157 standard unless you drilled your headlights a little, finally depending how you drilled the installation may no longer be waterproof, that's why we need to use the Honda Socket 1157 Part Number 33302-SR3-A01 this 1157 socket is fully compatible with the Honda Fit GE8 headlight case. --

If you will use a LED switchback you must to use load equalizers in the turn signal circuit to avoid hyperflashing, is not necessary to use equalizers in the parking light circuit.

And finally if you don't want to install leds you can choose the double filament bulbs 21W/5W like NOKYA or other brands.

I'll publish soon some additional pictures installing the socket and how to connect the parking light circuit into the new socket.

Picture 1:
On the left the stock turn bulb in the stock Honda Fit socket, on the right the socket 1157, as you can see the installation slots are the same.

Picture 2:
The socket 33302-SR3-A01 (1157) installed in the same place of the turn signal of an Honda Fit GE8, the fitting is exact and is still waterproof.

Picture 3:
A few inches on the side, the wires of the parking lights.

Picture 4:
The new connector 04321-SR3-308 needs 3 wires, two of them + and - belong to the turn signals and the third will be the positive(+) of the parking lights or the DRL in my case.

Is not necessary to drill, the new Honda socket 1157 fit exact, I said you need to drill just only if you use a standard 1157 socket (not Honda OEM).

Instead of buying the universal double filament sockets, could you just use a single filament switchback bulb? I would assume yes, but just wasn't sure. I was thinking about getting these?

Sure, you can use this bulb, however you have to use another socket and i don't know if exist a Honda socket 7440 that fit in the GE8.

Anyway if you decided to install these bulbs, please send us your pictures and how to do to use the 7440.

Good luck,
Luis

Hello Keith

I found this for you, may be you can use this socket in order to do not drill or lost the original waterproof installation.

Is available on ebay

New Genuine Honda Accord CR V Socket T20 w 33302 S5A A01 | eBay

NOTE: I'm not sure about this but it seems this socket fit in the front turn headlight of our Fits GE8

Regards,
Luis

I just update this post, I recommend just use this kind of LED bulbs

6K TYPE 2 DUAL COLOR CHANGING WHITE AMBER SWITCHBACK 42 HIGH POWER LED TURN SIGNAL BULBS 1157 2057 | 1 PAIR

because the cheaper ones that you can find on eBay or other sites are not brilliant enough, so this is the better alternative if you wanna to applied this mod.

You can use the TRITON as well however the price is too elevated.

Thanks for the write-up. I think this may work for the 2007 USDM GD3 Fit too, but I'm really lazy and probably won't ever try it. The theory seems like it would be multi-generational for Fits though.

Thanks for your comment DWils, but it would be helpful if you take a picture of the Front Turn Socket of your fit to compare and I'll update this post indicating if this mod will work on a GD3

Luis

Quick question about wiring: do I pull the positive and negative wires from the current socket and then plug them into the new socket? And then I run another positive wire (the third wire on the new socket) to the fuse panel (or splice the second positive wire to something powered whenever the car is on)?

The answer to your 1st question is YES, just make sure those +&- will activate the AMBER lights of the SWITCHBACK Led

The 3rd wire - In my case I use the DRL function from the FUSE BOX (Canadian models), so when I start my car the White light comes ON in both directional lights (this is the 3rd wire in my case), those white lights comes off and start to blink AMBER when the turning lights are activated (SWITCHBACK LED function)

In your case, if you don't have the DRL function, you must find your IG2 wire from your FUSE to have the same DRL function, so when you start your car the White ligth comes ON

OR

You can wire the + from your position (parking lights) the small orange from the sides (in this case the white lights will be activated at the same time of the parking lights, not all the time)

Tomorrow I'll post some pictures from my fuse box

Hope this helps,
Luis
