Angry Replace wiper insert

How long would you expect it to take to replace a Fit wiper blade insert? One minute? How long did it take me? Slightly less than an hour, counting Google time. How long SHOULD it take? One minute.

I feel your pain:-) I found it was so much easier to remove the wiper first and then replace the insert while the wiper is off the car. Just a warning if you remove the blade, don't leave the arm in the up position. They can accidentally snap down against the windshield with enough force to cause a crack.

I just replace the whole assembly. Snap off, snap on.

Assembly? $15 or so. Blade? $5. But (according to loud) I'm a cheap bastard. Yeah it's about 5 minutes per wiper. And yes, remove the assembly before trying to replace the blade and then replace the assembly. I don't have ice to deal with, the factory blade assembly is fine. I replace the blades yearly whether they need it or not.

there's always reading the owner's manual. pdf link

If I already have the insert near by, it takes me maybe a minute and a half to two minutes to replace both front wiper inserts on most Hondas (excluding Ridgeline). For the hatch insert, add another minute to a minute and a half.

The prep work is all in matching up which side has the "locking end" first and being able to swap the metal ribs over quickly without "hunting" for the correct guide slots.

Indeed, I did find out that it was a lot easier with the wiper assembly removed. I have now learned, and am prepared for the next one. It never occurred to me that the owner's manual would have this in it. I hope these posts save future unfortunates the trouble I had. Thanks to all.

yah, i swapped 6 inserts on my two GE's in about 10min or so. i do remove the blades off the car before i swap inserts. makes the work go faster.

it's just a matter of pulling up a clip to remove the blade off the arm.

Don't feel bad OP everytime I go to the auto parts store during the winter I see some poor person taking forever to change their blades so I normally walk over and help them out

They can be tricky sometimes

Don't worry it's usually just to buy an oil filter or something random, no fake fender vents or racing stripes

I do like Honda inserts. They are more pliable, but very annoying to replace, so I just go with generic assembly replacement:

Anyone else have an absolute bitch of a time trying to replace the rear hatch insert? That by far takes the longest for me. I mean I like the OEM blades, better than other generic options, but still...

I just replaced my rear with a cheapo Trico assembly, I figured I don't need awesome performance from the hatch wiper Plus the OEM assembly was looking a little worn/faded.

I thought i'd try pulling the insert out anyway just to see what all the fuss was about. I just pulled the middle up and bent it until the stops pulled out of the last guide, lifted the end of the blade over the guide and slid it out. Took 1 minute including brain calculation time and trying to slide it straight out (unsuccessfully).
