What exactly does VSA do?
My previous car had traction control, which was merely the opposite of ABS. The computer would apply the brake the wheel that was spinning.
Is this what VSA does? Just curious.

The Vehicle Stability Assist system helps to stabilize the vehicle during cornering if the vehicle turns more or less than desired. It also assists you in maintaining traction while accelerating on loose or slippery road surfaces. It does this by regulating the engine’s output, and by selectively applying the brakes.
When VSA activates, you may notice that the engine does not respond to the accelerator in the same way it does at other times.
The VSA system cannot enhance the vehicle’s driving stability in all situations and does not control your vehicle’s entire braking system. It is still your responsibility to drive and corner at reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.

If a skunk ambles out into the road and you have to suddenly swerve to avoid the critter, all kinds of stuff will happen without you having to think about it. All you have to do is steer. You will notice that the engine RPMs drop suddenly even with the cruise control on. You will hear the ABS pump run. The car will not become upset. If you steer accurately you will not hit the skunk. For those of you who do not live in the country, this is a good thing.
Also, you will be amazed at how much this improves your life on snowy roads. However, like with traction control, if you get stuck in the snow you should turn it off to rock it out.
If you read other posts on the subject you will find that many posters think if you are a good driver you don't need this. It is only for drivers like me. For those people I have a dead skunk I can send them.
Cheers.
