It's an efficient car, and it can do really well if you let it. If you actively try to drive it more efficiently, there's a lot of room for you to work with. If you modify it (SiRca90 even played with the gearing) and work it hard, then you can get even better results.

I agree with if you work at it you can get very good MPG. Myself I drive and accelerate very gently so I get real good mileage. However, some of the mileage claims here are embellished.

The Fit is a great little car but MPG wise it's outdone buy other cars in it's class.

It is. But it beats the hell out of them on interior space! Everything's a compromise.
