Measurement Request

I may be in the market for a Fit, but i need to make sure it will fit the largest item that I regularly transport. Can someone please give me a measurement from the back of the front seat to the hatchback with the back seats down?

Thanks!

~60" according to this thread. The usable width at that length may be limited. 1.5 meters or 59 inches is pretty safe.

I've checked it before for my own needs, and at the cargo floor it's 54 inches in the middle. That's with the front seats all the way back. You could probably gain several inches moving one or both seats up (if you still fit in the car). The back isn't perfectly squared off, so it's about 3 inches less toward the sides.

But the backs of the front seats lean backwards, so the effective length becomes less for taller cargo. What shape is your item?

It sounds like I should be safe. It is 47" in length and not very wide or tall. When I look at one of those cars on the outside, I imagine there is no way that it will "fit", but it sounds like these cars are magic. Thanks for the quick responses.

Don't forget you can also fold the passenger seat all the way back to fit really long stuff. I've carried giant floor rugs over ten feet long and lots of other crap at the same time, yet still had room for my wife to sit in the drivers side rear seat. This car is amazing!

Its funny proving friends and roommates wrong with what I can stick in my car. Recently had to buy some lumber to reframe a door, and my roommate refused to accept I could get 8 foot 1x6's in. The look on his face when I came back with all the lumber we needed with tons of room to spare was awesome.

I have a 2010 Sport and I measured the cargo space as (this is with the front seats all the forward) 60" from the rear of the front seats to the rear of the cargo area where the vent things are near the floor above the tire storage. The width between the wheel wells was 38". In other words, you can fit a sheet of plywood 60" by 38" flat on the floor. I had a very large jigsaw puzzle that I had to carry once (it's thin obviously) and it just fit the widest width point of the hatch opening. The puzzle width was 41". The length of the puzzle was 61" and it kept hitting my in the bag of the head (I took the headrests off so it would lie on the top of the front seats.

I had it wrong. It's minimum about 54 inches at the sides, about 56 inches in the center.

I've taken 8 feet tall artificial trees with no problem. 2 of them.

Had to fold down the front passenger seat too though.
