All you need is an oil change
naw, your conclusion should be to use mobil1 green cap and factory filter, $31-32 for synthetic 0w20 (5qt jug walmart), 1qt left over for any top off as needed.
if you want really to save money, diy. the fit is like the easist car to do oil changes.
After they had rotated the tires on my wife's Forester they told her it wouldn't pass the state inspection because the tires were worn out... I feel more anxiety in a car dealership than I ever did when directing a medevac helicopter into a hot LZ while a firefight was going on.. I have never let anyone work on my Fit but the guy at the muffler shop, tire store or a 16 year old kid I've known since he was a baby.. I always have my eye on them when they are doing what I want done....
PS: I miss you, you gonna PM me back?
This is not at all true. They recall cars that may have a specific, repeated, defect, not if one part in one car happens to be bad.
Eunos: thanks very much for that honest insight on dealer gauging. We all new that anyway.
Ray: it is my understanding (from the mouths of many Service Managers) that you, as the owner, CANNOT decline a safety recall once you bring it in to a dealer. They are liable to perform ALL recall items, not just ones the owner is interested in. Again, if they don't do them all, they will be up to their necks in lawyer doo doo. If you don't want recall work done on your car, stop going to the dealer; period.

Our local dealer, Pauly Honda changed service department management about 10 years ago from friendly with cheap oil changes to tiger sharks. I witnessed them ripping off women for thousands of dollars in unneeded service, so I never went back. They would push a $1200 timing belt change on you at 50,000 miles.
I did go back last month to let them rip me off for a Civic key, only because the wife insisted. ($50 for and $18 key blank.)

What John said. Changing the oil and filter is drop-dead simple, only requires a 17mm wrench and a pan to dump the oil into. $30-35 of materials and a brief afternoon of so-called work and you're done. C'mon, guys and gals... you can do it yourself.

Where do you take your oil to get it disposed of?
The walmart where I buy my oil is happy to take used oil. Anyplace that has a garage should be; used oil is worth more than you would think.
Walmart will take my container and empty it, but they seem just as happy if you just give them an old oil container full of used oil.

My local dealership charges me only $30 for oil/filter change and additional $20 for tire rotation at 7.5K mile interval. $50 every 6 months is not bad for oil change, car is at 70K miles and very reliable. Transmission flushed at 50K interval.
