Broken sensor on driver side transmission cover

Reason I ask is that I have bought the replacement parts from honda to fix this cover, I just wanted to see if this cover that is on the driver side is something I can replace or am I going to need to visit a transmission shop to replace this cover. I ask as there is a hollow tube that goes into the transmission and I dont know if this is holding gears into place or what not.. I dont do auto trans, I buy them new from dealer, been burned with used auto transmissions before.

any info would help.

thanks

on the back side of the cover there is a shaft, but does this hold gears into place ?

It appears a bearing (part 32) nests into this, which would support a gear shaft. It doesn't look simple (but I'd also opt for a rebuilt/new transmission before diving into one, so what do I know...).

Here are the relevant bits from the shop manual. The end cover removal steps are part of an entire teardown/rebuild. I think you have 11 steps to remove, and steps 25 through 49 in the installation. I don't see anything too terrifying. Just don't look beyond step 11...

removal/installation (first page blank)

headed over to a local transmission shop that had a core took it a part I'm missing a bearing on the cover bought from honda but other wise straight forward other then dropping the motor a bit to get to it.
